It all started nearly 8 years ago, when he commented on a mutual friend’s picture on Facebook. We started joking & chatting, adding each other as ‘friends’ and it grew over years. There was a distance issue, as well as an age gap that kept us as friends for years.
He arranged all with my family & daughter. Bought a ring and when we went on family holidays 2 years ago, he wanted it around the fire (knowing how important my family is to me, and the fact that my sister only visits from Canada once every 2 years) with smores and laughter, but alas the weather didn’t play along and it had to happen in the lounge! He went down on one knee and I started crying – didn’t expect it! Sadly, the ring didn’t fit! That caused a new ring hunt when we got back home.
I loved planning this detailed wedding – hoping to one day make a career of it! It took us 2 years to plan. I did use SA Weddings. I entered the SA Weddings Bride of the Year competition and was contacted by the television show "Pasgetroud" because of being a listed SA Weddings bride.
Internet / Pinterest / our comic interest / movies
It was a whole weekend of family, loved ones, friends getting together. I struggle to choose a moment / a favourite. Loved every minute of it, loved the being together most.
Superheroes! We are both comic / gaming geeks and wanted something themed from the start. It evolved and grew into a full-blown theme eventually.
Due to the very specific theme, each of the groomsmen chose a superhero whose colours they wanted to use. This resulted in my bridesmaids choosing one of those colours to complement their black dresses, in the shape of colour shoes and colour flowers. My hubby loves Superman and even has the tattoo, which made me decide on Batgirl with a gold and black dress and details.
Every piece of our décor and flowers linked to our theme as per the pics. Boxes for flowers on the table were handmade by a friend and branded with F loves L for detail.
All décor was handmade, signage, kids table, wine labels, theme rings for bridesmaids, cutlery holders, everything!
We opened on Richard Marx’s song for Anastastia (theme song). At the Beginning
My hubby’s tears when he saw me!
Choose what you want, not what you think will make your guests happy! Its over in a flash!
We didn’t, due to family being here from overseas etc we booked a holiday with them along the coast and spent 8 days with them. We will have our honeymoon on our 1st anniversary.
