Striking up a conversation through a Facebook app. Heidi chastising me for taking too long to respond. Then her stalking me at my flat.
We booked a weekend in McGregor with some of our friends and I was not aware that anything of this sort would happen. The morning we were supposed to go for massages, Niall insisted we first take a walk through the town. I was hesitant as it was rainy weather. Eventually we took the car and drove through the town. Once we stopped for lunch, Niall called me to inspect some damage on the side of my car. As I rushed to see the damage he was on his knee with the most beautiful ring I have always wanted!!! I just broke out laughing. I laughed so much that I forgot to give him an answer at first. Such a perfect moment, unplanned and in the cutest town ever.
The planning process was quite a headache. We had a plethora of ideas and wanted a very quirky, playful wedding. Not the classic style. It needed to be a glimpse into our personalities combined in one day.
Both of us hated the thought of planning such an event. Luckily, we found Tracy – Trunk Events when visiting our venue. Immediately after a few giggles and a chat I told Tracy, “You are mine”, I’m taking you. The rest of the process was fun and exciting, as Tracy managed everything.
I am a champagne bottle filled with bubbles that explodes when I’m around people! Niall is an introverted, super geek and we are both child-like and playful. Life’s way too serious already. We wanted everyone to have the best time and just enjoy the day and experience. Our theme centered on bringing back your childhood memories mixed with an elegant element.
On my way down the aisle my shoe got stuck and I couldn’t move. I then chose to look into my husband-to-be’s eyes and focus on dedicating our lives to each other.
It was a journey for both of us to finally find the missing piece of our collective puzzle.
Childhood nostalgia and geek-chic.
I never thought of marrying someone so therefore had no wedding dress ideas. I followed my instinct and met up with Janita Toerien. At our first consultation, we decided we’ll just start something and see where we end up! I loved that about Janita. She designed the most exquisite dress for me, so comfortable and unique. Exactly the way I wanted.
Tracy assisted us a lot with the décor as we had no idea how to execute this theme. We came up with some cool ideas and made it work. We brought in elements of Mario brothers, Star Wars, Mr. Men cartoon characters and of course Avengers.
Whilst trying to keep the floral theme in tune with the beauty of the natural surroundings.
We made our own guest gifts, which was a S’mores inspired creation.
Our taste in music is like chalk and cheese. We love watching Britain’s Got Talent and one evening an artist called Mandy Harvey She lost her hearing a few years back, but still continued to make music despite the fact that she couldn’t hear the notes!! We were so inspired by her and loved the song (Mara’s Song), we decided this is our 1st dance hit.
After the main events were done, I could have a few drinks and enjoy myself with my family and friends. So much so that I ended up behind the bar serving the shooters and drinks.
Do not sweat the small stuff. I know this is said by almost every bride out there, really it is the truth. I wasn’t able to immerse myself in the event and wished I had taken the time to take it all in. Do not leave your guests for too long taking the bridal photos. One misses all the excitement that happens after the ceremony. Be present in the moment. Laugh, make jokes and enjoy some champagne. It’s over in the blink of an eye.
We chose not to do the island relaxation option and opted for a more cultural experience. I wanted summer weather and we in some ways were limited. Europe was off the cards, too cold. We loved the idea of South-East Asia so we decided to do Vietnam, Cambodia and spent a few days in Singapore.
