Our sparks started six years ago! We met each other through my brother, who is also Kyle’s best friend. I had however been living abroad, so we only saw each other occasionally. Despite the distance and no confessions of any feelings at the time, today we both agree that already then, we knew. Four years later, the confessions finally surfaced and from then on, we have truly been inseparable.
It was all highly planned by Kyle- He surprised me one morning with a fully equipped, packed bag, and the only info I was given was that we were going on a surprise trip. When we arrived at the airport, the destination was of course revealed and I just couldn’t contain my excitement! Seychelles…. a dream come true! On our second evening, we went for a walk on the beach. It had been overcast, almost our entire trip, but the clouds seemed to clear up and the beautiful sunset prevailed just in time for the proposal.
I don’t think we expected it to be as nerve wrecking as it was. Planning everything from scratch, on our own, even with less than 50 guests. We did make the most of every moment though, and took our time, ensuring our day would be everything we’ve ever wanted. Being engaged for a year and nine months surely made this possible! We did make use of SA Weddings. It really helped us, with a wide selection of great information and inspiration for our special day!
We drew our inspiration from bridal magazines, expos, SAWeddings.co.za, Facebook, advice from friends and family, even Pinterest and Instagram was helpful.
Our most memorable and special part of the day, was, without a doubt, seeing one another for the first time on our wedding day!
We had many ideas and themes planned, but it all came down to a mix and match to find the perfect combination that described our taste. Our colours were pastel, specifically ballet pink and mint. We also incorporated hessian and silver touches to our wedding theme. We would say simplistic, and warm is the best word to describe our theme.
My dress was an A-line, Enzoani. The top half made of the softest lace I’ve ever seen and felt! The straps also made of delicate lace with an open back. The skirt’s lining was tight fitted, to show my shape, with two layers of tulle over that. The perfect combination of being beautifully flowy and at the same time able to embrace your body’s natural curves. My bridesmaids dress also included lace, in a very soft pink.
We’ve always liked the idea of a wedding being inspired by simplicity. It speaks more than a wedding that is over the top. Our flowers were beautiful Cape Proteas and King Proteas were used for the guest centre pieces as well as my bouquet. Proteas are known to be resilient, and this was also a symbol representing our love.
We did most of the actual set up of the deco and flowers, ourselves, with the help of the wonderful wedding team at Avianto! As for all the other items, we handpicked and chose each and every special item used on the day.
A Thousand Years-Christina Perri. This song speaks to us, describing exactly these past 6 years, so it holds a very special place in our hearts and we found it perfect for the occasion!
Our favourite, “will never forget” memory, is the special moment of signing the registry, with our parents beside us, knowing that this day had finally come, and the feeling of the moment being so surreal! Best feeling ever!
Do not rush anything, nor let any pressure get to you. It is so important to remember that everyone will be happy on your special day, if you are. Therefore, make your day for you, and your husband to be. Mostly, remember to enjoy, and take in, each and every moment of the whole journey, as the actual day goes by in a heartbeat.
We went on a short trip to Clarens. A beautiful location in the Free State, surrounded by breath taking views and only minutes away from Golden Gate National Park, which is a must see! We are planning our real honeymoon for December, but have not yet decided on tropical, or cosy snow surroundings.
