On 12 April 2014, we both attended a 21st birthday party in Botrivier and immediately loved each other's company. After a couple of weeks, it was time for the famous Cheese and Wine Festival. Waldo brought his A-game and bought me a nougat and some wine. Later that evening, Waldo, the good guy that he is, offered to walk me to my flat. When we arrived at Rattray, I offered Waldo a G&T which gave us time to engage in a lot of small talk on the porch. In a moment of madness, Waldo made his move, which until today will still be remembered as that night that we had our first kiss. Even though we were head over heels in love, we both needed some time to evaluate the commitment. Little did we know that on the 03 October 2014 our lives would change forever. At Rocking the Daisies, Waldo finally plucked up the courage to take the relationship to the next level. After setting up camp we took a walk to the main stage where Waldo turned to me and asked, "Sal jy my meisie wees?" Without hesitation I answered, "Jaa natuurlik!" and the rest as they say, is history!
I grew up on a farm, Tevrede, near Riviersonderend, where my parents still live. Waldo knows that it is a very special place and kept it top of mind as he planned the big proposal. My grandfather, Malan Jacobs, passed away during the Laingsburg flood on 25 January 1981. Waldo spoke to my grandmother about their proposal and she mentioned the special bench that she still has at her apartment where he proposed. On 26 January 2019, on the same bench that my grandfather asked my grandmother to marry him, Waldo asked the big question.
I loved planning our wedding and Waldo was very supportive in this.
I enjoyed using Pinterest and following Instagram pages.
There were so many special moments at our wedding. But seeing each other for the first time was incredibly special.
We did not have a specific theme, we used a lot of delft objects and vibrant jewel tones such as emerald, navy, maroon and mustard.
I wanted a plain and elegant, but still WOW dress. I went to try on different styles and loved long sleeves and low back. Got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest. My mom was also my biggest inspiration. My bridesmaids' dresses were emerald bought at Woolies (plain and simple).
The flowers were my mom's "baby" and she did an amazing job.
My mother and I made the napkins.
We had a lockdown wedding and could not have the first dance. But we walked into the venue on "Breathless", a song we both LOVE.
21 March 2020 our special had a lot of will-never-forget memories. We both loved getting ready with our bridesmaids and groomsmen. Seeing my father for the first time was also a memory I will cherish forever.
Enjoy the planning and when things start to get hectic, pour two glasses of wine and take a break.
Due to Covid-19, we postponed our Bali honeymoon.
