Naomi: The magic began on a Christian dating website. There was an instant connect where we both knew this was not something out of the ordinary. After our initial chats and email conversations, Gervann knew he had to fly down to Cape Town to meet me. So within 6 days we met face to face, it was then that we both knew we had met our spouses to be.
Since the 17th of November 2014 (10 months) and our first initial contact was made on the 15th of October 2014.
As a couple we respect each other first and foremost as individuals, and we value the same things in life, such as family and friends. We are loving, affectionate and truly concerned for each other's wellbeing. We love to laugh and also believe that a couple that prays together stays together. We are of the firm belief God has brought us together. We both also have compassion and a caring spirit that leads us to help others.
Naomi: Gervann proposed on the 5th of June 2015. He took me back to Big Bay Beach - the deck where we had our first date. It was at that very spot the first night that we sat chatting till 1:30am… Our first date was actually a full 7 hours long. The night he proposed we walked along the beach and he dropped down on both knees and asked me to be his wife. Needless to say we were both very emotional and excited all at the same time. Best night of our lives!
Initially we were not convinced we needed to do an engagement but on meeting our wedding photographer (Riaan West) we realised what a lovely thing it could be. So we opted for the engagement shoot.
It took place in Augrabies in the Northern Cape, on two of Gervann's different farms.
The first half of the shoot was done on the cattle farm, so the stark contrasts of stone, red sand and the Nguni cattle created that scene and the second half was on the pecan nut farm situated on the Orange River.
Gervann and I went to the jeweller together. I was given the opportunity to pick my "best friend", as Marilyn would say. The rest I left up to him. He designed the ring as we see it today. I fully trusted him and he did not disappoint ☺ I love the piece he made for me.
Gervann and I are doing most planning ourselves but we do have expert advice and assistance from my cousin, Marcel Augustyn-Clark.
Our wedding will simply be a joyous celebration of family and friends. Tranquillity is the theme we want it spread throughout the occasion.
Riaan West is a Cape Town based international fine art wedding photographer who travels for local and International weddings.
