We had been dating for five years when we got engaged.
We are two people who love to have fun, try not to take ourselves too seriously and love our friends and family. This was reflected on our wedding day; we played a lot of games at the wedding and had a good laugh during the ceremony and the reception.
He proposed in August 2013, I thought that we were celebrating his CIMA qualification. William took me on a bit of a trip down memory lane in Stellenbosch. Throughout the day, we visited a few places which were special to us. That evening, when I thought we were on our way home, he stopped outside the theology building in Stellenbosch and took me inside to the balcony on the top floor. At this point I knew there was something happening. He pretended to be opening up champagne, but instead was taking out a ring. The next thing he was down on one knee, asking me to marry him. And I of course, burst into tears and said yes.
The engagement shoot was an extra offered by Blink Photography when we booked them. They suggested a themed shoot in a location which was special to us, so we decided to have the shoot at the theology building where we got engaged. We also thought that it had a lot of different spaces to work with, and we both love Stellenbosch so it seemed like the perfect location.
The theme was student life, since we met and fell in love during our student days.
He chose it himself - very impressive! I had no idea the ring was being made.
We did not make use of a wedding planner, we planned it all by ourselves. That's why we decided to keep things simple. We wanted to be able to enjoy the day without stressing that any of the details would go wrong. The simpler we kept it, the less could go wrong I figured. We also got married within 3 and half months of our engagement, which meant keeping it simple was the best thing to do.
For our wedding we wanted to have a beautiful venue, with great food, and lots of games and music. People don't tend to remember the décor and so the rest of the details were not important. As long as he was there and I was there and we could get married… that is all that mattered.
