The Cape Winelands unveiled the union of Luc Lenferna de la Motte and Mari Hansen at Rickety Bridge Winery on 5 March, 2016. Nestled at the base of the majestic Franschhoek Mountains overlooking the lush green vineyard vistas the historic Cape Dutch Manor House formed the romantic, picturesque stage for the internationally acclaimed couple to say their vows.
The gorgeous two met in January 2013 and travelled the globe together in inseparable unison, with a subsequent proposal two years later in March 2015. Luc, 27, a qualified and practicing equity analyst-come-model of Mauritian-French decent, has featured in numerous leading local and international magazines including GQ and Men’s Health (cover model in both France and Netherlands) as well as representing a plethora of renowned brands including Fabiani, American Swiss and Tom Ford, to name a few.
Now 23, Norwegian born and raised model, Mari too has been featured in the world’s leading magazines including Vogue (Portugal & UK), ELLE (UK, Portugal, SA & Norway), Marie Claire (UK, Spain & SA), Cosmopolitan (UK & SA), Glamour (SA), Grazia (SA), ID Magazine (UK), Harpers Bazaar (Spain & Turley) and Spur (Japan); having also featured in campaigns for brands such as Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Bally, and Puma.
The fun-loving, quirky couple dreamed of having a Cape Winelands wedding which their French and Norwegian families could come together for, in celebration not only of their unity but also to fully experience the magic of the newlywed’s new home base, Cape Town, South Africa. Their brief was rustic elegance, a vision suited ideally to Rickety Bridge Winery and sister neighbour estate, Basse Provance, where the couple’s families stayed.
“It was an absolute honour to have been invited to conduct Luc and Mari’s wedding. They are simply the most lovely and exciting couple to ever work with! I was awash with excitement and brimming with beautiful ideas when they asked me. I knew right away that the wedding had to be conducted at Rickety Bridge,” Says Event Organiser, Jade Allen of Red Carpet Concepts
The lavish flower arrangements throughout the venue were curated by the incredibly talented Lindie du Plessis of Fynbosch Florist, including the exquisite succulent-filled glass espresso cup wedding favours. The bride and her bridesmaids’ bouquets, though, were put together by the bride’s mother, a Norwegian florist, adding a flair of Norwegian elegance to the retinue. The Durbanville-based florist (Fynbosch) sews South Africa’s magnificent and unique indigenous flora through her floral decorations, ideally fitting to a true showcasing of our country’s natural beauty, particularly for those visiting from abroad.
Luc and Mari’s bespoke wedding was characterised by a juxtaposition of extravagant clusters of crystal chandeliers and layers of light offset against the thatch roof inside the reception area and massive age-old oak trees outside encompassing the ceremony lawns. The ceremony space was clad with loungey picnic pockets and outdoor games, complimented with views across the Franschhoek valley and a live music performance by Amy Tjasink and her band, Nash Music, to set the mood.
The perfect play of natural materials and tones contrasted seamlessly with the fine crockery and silverware adorning the tables; the elaborate decor concept drawn together by Allen and To-Netts Decor and Event Hiring’s Director, Anton van Zyl. Bold table centrepieces of dry branches floated upwards from fairy-lit vases, drawing the eye up towards the intricate array of cascading light features, together adding to the whimsical ambience.
Mrs Jones Cakes created Luc and Mari’s decadent three tier rustic masterpiece wedding cake. An almond flavoured double tier vanilla bean butter icing and raspberry preserve, topping a base tier of chocolate cake with vanilla cream and raspberry filling, the cake was decorated with fresh flowers drawing on the flora throughout the venue.
The bride made her breath-taking appearance adorned in a Jacques LaGrange ensemble, followed by a second bridal couture finery. This South African born ‘King of Couture’ who’s experience tails from routes in Paris, France, has showcased his bold garments across the globe. Local and international personalities and clients have worn his bespoke creations, from Royal Ascot in the United Kingdom to The Cannes Film Festival in the South of France.
“I couldn’t have envisioned a more perfect and magical day to celebrate our love for one another, surrounded in the epitome of what for me was an unparalleled setting; joined by family and friends from all corners of the earth. I felt like a princess. This special day brings me tears of joy, and truly reflects the fun-loving quirky characters Luc and I are in our greatest moment of celebration.”
