Our wedding day was a special day - like most brides would say I am sure. But every detail of our day was made and thought of by the two of us. Every second was more special than the previous one - from getting ready to saying goodbye at the end of the night. But one thing that was just that extra bit special for the both of us was how we opened our dance floor. We both love dancing and frequently dance together but we both knew that dancing that day in heavy dresses would not be practical or easy. So we had a special lady, a beautiful Drag queen named Stella Rose, open our dance floor for us. She did an amazing job and performed a few different songs and had all our guests mesmerised!
We did not go on a honeymoon. We knew that we wanted a special wedding day and that our budget would be quite tight - so we made the decision to make sure our wedding day was extra special. It has been almost 9 months now since that day and every day since then has felt like a honeymoon with her by my side anyway.
So being two brides our looks were quite different!
Deveny wore a silk ball gown-style wedding dress with thin straps on her shoulders. She had a beautiful veil with a ribbon finish. She wore her hair in a high ponytail and her natural curls cascaded down her back. She wore statement earrings, gold, with a simple gold bracelet and beautiful golden high heels. Deveny had her nails done in matt black, and her makeup was a smokey eye with a beautiful nude lip.
Pauli wore a vintage lace a-line dress with a low back. She had a simple white veil and wore rose gold earrings. Her hair was in an updo on her neck. She wore rose gold stilettos and a simple rose gold bracelet. Pauli's makeup was in shades of browns and she also had a nude lip.
Both dresses and veils were bought from the big bridal popup.
Ella Rockefella did our hair and she was incredible! She really made our day special. Our Makeup and Nails were done by Dayna Trollope and she did a fabulous job as well!
We wanted a wedding that was like us - something more intimate and personal. We were looking for coffee shops or restaurants that could help us. Deveny found Moonshot Cafe. We went to have a look and we were both immediately in love! This cafe is on top of the King Price building in Pretoria and not only is the interior incredibly beautiful - the view is just as breathtaking! We had 35 guests, only those who we loved and who loved us, and everyone had a great time!
Our beauty regimes were not much different than how we take care of ourselves now. We are both active and we kept up with yoga daily as well as strength training. We made sure to rest leading up to the day and did however make sure to up our water intake and cut out all sugars and carbs for a while. It was about being ourselves and being as healthy as possible.
Our decor was breathtaking! Our color palate was green, black, gold, and white. We had Leeanne from Mode Weddings and Sanel from Petal'je make our day the most special day we could have ever asked for. We shared with them what our dream looked like and they realized it! We made use of the furniture supplied by moonshot cafe and it all tied in very well with our ideas. We had white nordic underplates with black linen napkins and black moon cutlery. On the tables, there was crystal glassware with gold rims and in the middle of the tables, there were black candlesticks with black tapered dinner candles. We had no flowers on our day - only green pot plants in vases all along the central line. We got to keep it as a memento for our wedding day and these beautiful pot plants now decorate our home.
Where we had our ceremony we had a lovely black circle arch with corner botanical detailing and there was confetti in baskets for the people to throw after the ceremony.
We chose four bridesmaids. Our four closest friends. Deveny had two and Pauli had two walking with us down the aisle. They each wore a floor-length black dress of their choice with gold jewelry. They did their own hair and makeup as they saw fit. We have beautiful friends and they all looked lovely on the day!
We had a lovely man called Jo, a shaman from Soul Healers officiate our wedding on the day. He did a beautiful blessing and we did a rose ceremony where we exchanged roses as a symbol of our commitment and love.
Our photographer is an incredible person! Her name is Marnique Major and her company's name is Major and me. She was able to capture our day up to the finest details and did the most amazing job! Looking back at each photo now can still bring back those warm bubbly feelings - she has an talent for being able to capture a genuine moment in time. We love what she did and love her work!
We did not have a planner specifically. Each vendor was able to communicate with the next and the day worked out perfectly. The wedding did provide someone for all the vendors to communicate with to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Deveny's mother works for Kia South Africa and she was able to organize an impressive Kia Carnival for us to drive with on the day. Driving in style was not up for discussion.
Moonshot prepared the food and it was mouthwatering! We had canapes to start the night off right. This was followed by chicken enchiladas and a choice of three different salads. The food was prepared exquisitely and people still comment on how good it was!
Marnel from Winterberry and Whisk baked our cake. This was a piece of art on its own. We gave her our color palate and then gave her free rein on how to decorate it. She made a two-tier, black buttercream, cake with delicate green leaf detail. The top layer was salted caramel, Pauli's favorite, and the bottom layer was dark chocolate with coffee ganache, Deveny's favorite.
Marnique from Major and Me is a woman with many talents. She designed and printed all our stationary for the wedding as well.
Our reception was one that not many people will soon forget. We had Stella Rose, the beautiful Drag queen, open our dance floor for us with three songs. She had a cabaret-styled performance and all the guests loved every moment! This was very special to us.
Our Dj was Dylan Rix and he was just as entertaining. We did not toss bouquets or garters so Dylan had all the guests join in on some games. First, the ladies and then the men and this was also thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
