Hermie Devine

Married on Jul 25, 2022 in Gauteng

How did your love story begin?

Well.... We lived in Mafikeng North West. My husband (William Devine) was working at the flight school as chief instructor and private pilot. I was in a band and was managing a pub.
We always seem to be drawn together when in the same room. Both of us love music and singing. So we always ended up singing together at a party.

One day he came to the pub I was managing and asked if i will come support him in a air race he was participating in. He said that if I come he will win the race for me... And he did, so handsome in uniform and proudly. I was so impressed that he kept his promise.

I then invited him to one of my shows soon after and he pitched up with all of his pilot friends to support me and my band. I couldn't believe it, he knocked my feet right underneath me again.

We shared our first kiss that night under moon eclipse 15 June 2011 and been together since. ❤️

Tell us all about the proposal.

6 Months into our relationship we went to Australia to visit my husbands parents for Christmas. One of our gifts was 3 days on a island close by. They live in Queensland gold Coast in a small town called Yapoon. Keppleisland is a fairy ride away. We went for the 3 day trip to Keppleisland and on the 2nd day we went out snorkeling. The tide was so strong that it pulled me deeper into the ocean and i couldn't ssem to swimm myself back out that hopeless feeling made me panic and I started getting a panic attack. I told him to leave me and save himself but he grabbed me and swam me to the shore saving my life. I was so grateful for him risking his life to save mine.

That evening we sat on the beach watching the sun set over the ocean he got on his one knee and asked my hand in marriage. Instantly said yes crying my eyes out because I didn't expect it to happen so soon but felt in my heart that we where ment to be..

We soon after moved into our own house and opened up our own pub & grill. After 3 years we where planning to get married but my husband got a job offer in Nigeria. We decided to sell everything we had and move to Nigeria on a rotation basis as expatriates. We planned to use the opportunity as a stepping stone and will eventually move to Australia, where his parents stay. (Now we are living in Nigeria for almost 8 years) .

Because of the big move we decided to move the wedding to June 2020. Then covid happened and we had to postpone it 3 times. Until our fairytale wedding happend 25 June 2022. We had friends and family from all over the world to celebrate this beautiful day with us and it was the best day of our lives...

We lived happily ever after since.

The end...
