We did go on honeymoon. We decided to have a "staycation" and keep it local. We spent two nights at Fazenda Greenhouse Cottage in Swellendam. After that we spent two days at Lekkerwater Beach Lodge and ended our honeymoon in Plettenberg Bay for 3 nights. We really had a lovely time!
I have had a love for fashion since childhood and I believe that if I had to choose another profession, I would want to work in the fashion industry. My dress was therefore very important to me and I wanted to do something different, but still see myself in the design. Olga-Maré Möller designed and made my dress and she was excellent. We planned and worked together on the design. I would recommend her to anyone. She went the extra mile and captured everything I wanted.
Before I went to see her, I tried on several cuts and styles to make sure I knew exactly what I wanted. My choice of design was not very traditional, but it reflects who I am and my personality. The top part of my dress had a lot of detail, therefore I chose to keep my jewelry minimalistic. Olga-Maré repeated the feathers and pearls from the shoulders of my dress on my wedding shoes and handbag to bring the look together. She also made my garter.
After our couples shoot, I took off the big bow off for our first dance together. Later that evening I slipped into a party dress, that was also made by Olga-Maré. I tied my hair back into a high ponytail and switched my earrings to match the dress. The dress was super fun and comfortable.
My make up was done by Mont Romay. She was amazing and I would recommend her to anyone!
We got married at The One Heavan and Earth in Caledon. The venue does not have its own accommodation, so our guests stayed in places close by. The venue provides a accommodation list that we put on our website. The bridal party stayed at Pause Guesthouse in Caledon (15km drive from the venue). I would really recommend Pause Guesthouse as an place for brides to get ready. It is very beautiful, well equip and spacious. Lascar and I spent our wedding night in Treyntjes River Cottage which is on the neighboring farm very close to the venue. We had a lovely stay!
I wouldn't say I had a specific beauty regime leading up to the wedding. We were engaged for a year, so during that time I tried to work out as regularly as possible and continued taking care of my skin. I struggle with hyper pigmentation on my forehead, so one of the major things I did was laser 6/7 weeks prior to our wedding. I had a Moxi Laser treatment at Dermology in Stellenbosch to help lighten the area. My makeup artist was amazing regarding my insecurity about my pigmentation and really did an amazing job covering it up. During my makeup trail, she made me feels so relaxed about it and she made me look flawless, without it looking like I had heaps of makeup on.
Further on I did all the basics like my nails, spray tan, lashes and hair the week before the wedding. My hair was done at Show Hair Salon in Stellenbosch. My spray tan was done by Martinique from Nique on Fleek. She uses the Go Brown spray tan which is super natural. I am very lucky to have a close friend who is a dentist. She gave me and my husband teeth whitening gel to use at home with molds we already had. White teeth definitely helps you feel confidant, especially when you know a lot of photo's are going to be taken. My lashes and brows were done by Beauty by Minke in Durbanville.
Our wedding colours were shades of nude, light pink and black. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to use dry elements in my flower arrangements. I knew that if I was able to give a lot of the dried flowers to the florist it would help save costs and it would mean that I can hang large installations from the roof. My mother helped me a lot with this and started trimming pampas and hydrangeas long before the wedding. It hung in a storeroom on my parents farm to dry for months.
I liked the idea mixing black with soft neutrals and pink. Many of the dried flowers were therefore spray painted to provide the desired colour. I used the mesh plinths next our arch at the ceremony and we used it again inside next to our bridal table. We decided to focus the pink fringe chandeliers together in the middle of our dance floor to make a statement. Overall everything turned out just how I envisioned!

Lascar's suit, bow tie and shirt was custom made at The Tux Tailor in Willow Bridge Mall. Their in store service and the quality of the suit was amazing. We would definitely recommend The Tux Tailor if you want a custom made suit, made to your specifications. The groomsmen got their suits at Zara and their ties are from H&M. I ordered the cuff links and tie clips online from That Bloke.
My bridesmaids dresses was bought at Forever New. I wanted both my bridesmaids to feel comfortable, so it was important for me that they liked the style and fit of the dress. I wanted something simple and elegant and I think the style of the dress suited them both. I wanted them to tie their hair back, seeing as my hair was loose on the day. They both wore the same nude lace up heels and earrings from Lovisa, to accessorize the look. I was really happy with how it all came together!
Our marriage officer was Henry Pike from Die Bron church in Durbanville.

Our wedding photographer was Jané Ulla Photography. Jané is such an amazing down to earth person who really made us feel so at ease on the day. We also did an engagement shoot with Jané before the wedding. This also gave us the opportunity to get to know her a little bit better and to help us feel comfortable in front of the camera. Our videographer was Kapture Films. Marnè is very affordable and she really captured all the special moments of the day. We are very happy with our wedding video and the service from Kapture Films.
We did not have a wedding planner, we only had on the day coordination. I am a Grade 1 teacher and thought I would put my organizing and multi tasking skills to the test and plan our wedding myself. We made the big decisions together, like the venue, photographer, DJ etc. but Lascar trusted me with the vision I had for our wedding. He was in charge of keeping track of payments and he made spreadsheets to help with our budget, where I was more in charge of the decor and all the aspects that needed a woman's touch.
With the planning, I got to know our service providers and I gained new respect for the industry and hard work that goes into wedding planning. I remember being so shocked at the quotes we received for lighting, but seeing how hard they worked and the effort it took, I immediately understood why we paid what we did. Off coarse there was a few hiccups. Due to medical reasons both our original DJ and florist had to cancel more or less 5 weeks prior to the wedding. It was a stressful time and without a planner we had to handle this ourselves. At the time it felt like the end of the world, but I am a firm believer that everything works out like its supposed to, and in the end we couldn't have been happier.
I wouldn't recommend planning your own wedding if you're not a fan of admin or if you don't really know what you want. If this is the case, I would say, rather spend the money on a planner, because he/she would be worth every sent. It was challenging at times, but looking back, I am proud of the wedding we put together. On the day everything went smoothly and it was all we ever hoped for and more!
The wedding car was my something old, borrowed and blue. It was my late grandpa's car, so we used it on our special day. My dad drove me himself from the guesthouse to the ceremony, so it was a very special moment alone between me and my dad.
We made use of Concept Food Catering. I would highly recommend Niel and his team. Everything was amazing and he was so helpful with the ideas that we had. We wanted to do something different during our predrinks to entertain our guests.
We served different canapes from the kitchen and also had three food stalls outside. The food stalls were based on the idea of "eat your way around the world". We had three countries: South-African, Asian and Mexican. With each round, three different cuisines was served from each country. For example with the Asian round we served pulled pork boa buns, chicken stir-fry noodles and spring rolls. The guests enjoyed it a lot. It as interactive and with the live music playing, it really felt like a market.
We used the same food stalls inside the courtyard the evening as a coffee and desert station. The guests had the opportunity to grab themselves something sweet with their coffee after the mains was served. The whole setup worked really well. Our wedding cake was made by a family friend. It was cut into small pieces and served as part of the desert station the evening along with other sweet nibbles.
We made use of JT events as our staffing company. They were absolutely incredible. Our guests was very impressed with the service of the staff. They were very professional and punctual. I would highly recommend both these service providers.

Our stationary was done by Liné Becker from Scrift Designs. Very happy with how everything turned out. She also designed our wedding website. She is very affordable and delivers an amazing service. Would highly recommend her to anyone!
Lascar and I have always loved dancing, so we didn't take any dance lessons. Often when we had braai's with the family before the wedding, we would play our wedding song and dance as a way of practicing. Luckily our first dance went smoothly and it was such a great moment for us.
Our lighting was done by Lekkertrou and our DJ was DJ Nico Bruyns. I would highly recommend both of them. Our DJ cancelled 5 weeks before our wedding due to medical reasons. We quickly had to make a plan to find someone that suited our budget and music style.
Luckily DJ Nico came highly recommended and was available, so we were really happy with how everything turned out. The dance floor was never empty and everyone had an amazing time.
