We have been waiting so long for our special day; COVID definitely threw a few curveballs our way. After postponing for a third time, we finally got to celebrate this intimate day with family and friends. What do they say... The third time is a charm?
For our wedding day, I had a very good idea about the perfect dress, as well as what our colour scheme and décor should look like. When I first contacted Yolande Kruger with what I had in mind for my dress, she immediately assured me that she would definitely be able to help.
When she showed me what she had, I was immediately in love. With only a few adjustments here and there, she designed my perfect wedding gown.
For the décor, I contacted Michelle Merrick and shared a couple of photos of what we had in mind with her. She knew exactly what we wanted and helped us arrange a beautiful mock-up table. The mock-up was spot on!
On our big day, in the early morning, my bridesmaids and I were even fortunate enough to glimpse a shooting star. We immediately knew this is going to be a very special day!
Later on, while we exchanging our I Dos, we also noticed an eagle circling above the ceremony. Despite emotions running very high throughout the ceremony, this somehow brought calmness over us.
With these occurrences, we truly believe both our parents (my husband's father - and my mother) were watching over us, sharing this special moment with us from heaven.
To make it even more special, I was also very blessed to get married using my mother's original wedding band.
The look reflected exactly what we as a couple represent. We went for a very glamorous, stylish look that was still both relaxed and vibrant.
Hair and makeup were done by Anneke van der Merwe of AURET hair & makeup studio.
The wedding gown was by Yolande Kruger of Eulogeo Zeloo Couture.
My shoes were from Redemption Leather.
We got married at a very elegant, rustic Paarl venue, with the most beautiful views, called d'Olyfboom - Conference and Wedding Venue.
We had visited quite a few wedding venues before we came across this venue. However, when we saw it, we immediately knew that it was the perfect reflection of us.
The weather leading up to the big day brought some concerns, as it had been cold, overcast and rainy. On the day though, the weather turned out perfectly and we could have our ceremony out on the lawn.
My husband and I and four other couples spent the night at the venue, while our other guests found accommodation in close proximity to the venue.
Our gardens and spectacular mountain views seem made for the wedding album and the guest accommodation ensures a relaxed ambiance for the bridal group.
My hair and makeup trial was done by the very talented Anneke van der Merwe of AURET hair & makeup studio.
I had a few facials and massages by Bonheur Wellness & Beauty in Durbanville.
My nail trial - as well as my nails for the big day - was also done by Bonheur Wellness & Beauty.
Other beauty regimes were done by Elzet van Dyk from Precision Beauty.
Our décor was rustically focused on a winter look, as conceptualised by Michelle Merrick of New Vintage Events. Our colour theme was white, gold, and basil green.
We hired a mailbox from My Pretty Vintage; this added a nice touch for the vintage look that we had in mind.
Instead of a cake topper, we ordered two wooden features from Wudeva - Laser Enthusiasts. They were beautiful and worked perfectly with our cake.
The dance floor was hired from Wilgenhof Estate.
My Pretty Vintage is all about creating events with a touch of whimsical magic, unique details and an abundance of love.
We are a furniture hiring company where you can rent beautiful items for your special event.
I wasn't involved when the men went for their fittings. So it left me with some imagination for the big day.
The groom and groomsmen were dressed in Lucca grey suits that were hired from Mr Suit Hire. They all looked very handsome!
The groom looked breathtaking. His choice of both the fabric and colour was exactly what I had imagined.
The groom's shoes and belt were from Redemption Leather.
The groom's watch and wedding band were from Hashtag Bamboo.
My bridesmaids wore basil green fit-and-flare infinity dresses by Maverick and Matriarch.
Their hair was done by the very talented Charlise Walters of The Hair Nook.
They all looked like something out of a fairytale story! They looked so beautiful!
Ptr. Jacobus Adriaan Swarts
He wasn't just our marriage officer but a beloved family pastor, who was involved with my husband's confirmation into the church, as well as with his father's funeral.
We had two of the most amazing, professional photographers: Candace Niemand from Mooiste Mooi Photography and Kim van Zyl from Kim van Zyl Photography.
The photo booth, meanwhile, was operated by the very friendly Andre and Tanya of Hart Shots Photography.
Our mouthwatering canapés, main course and dessert were done by Ebony & Ivory - Event Management and Catering. They put in so much effort when it came to the food and how it was displayed!
Some of the items on our menu were as follows:
Canapés:
Cocktail Smoked West Coast Snoek with Feta Cheese Quiches
Tempura Prawns, Premium Torpedo Prawns with Tartar and Wasabi Dip in a Cocktail Jam Jar
Cape Malay Bobotie Crepe Medallions
Mini Open Beef Burger on a Toasted Bruschetta Topped with Camembert Cheese and Red Onion Marmalade
Roast Beef Shavings Topped with Caramelised Red Onion on Toasted French Loaf Roundel
Main Course:
Deboned Butterflied Leg of Lamb
Chicken Fillet Stuffed with Sundried Tomatoes, Feta Cheese and Fresh Basil served with a Creamy Mushroom Sauce
Crispy Potato Wedges and Grilled Veg Skewers and Pumpkin Pie
Our very tasty wedding cake was done by Twice As Nice Cakery. It had two tiers, a carrot-and-pecan-nut cake with a buttercream filling and a red velvet cake with a Lindt dark chocolate filling. Both tiers were covered over with white Lindt chocolate.
We did some of the smaller décor touches, like the spray-painted golden pine cones, table names, table layout and the menu form(s) ourselves.
We also provided warm white fairy lights that were in conjunction with the green runners on both our main- and guest-tables.
The wine bottles were used as the table numbers; these were from GETWINE.
We kept our red wine table numbers in remembrance of our original wedding date.
We didn't need any dance lessons beforehand; every step came naturally. It was as if we had dance lessons! Every step was perfect.
We had the best DJ, Riaan Groenewald from BA Sounds Solutions. He was responsible for both the sound and lighting.
He quickly realised what the crowd wanted and kept them dancing all throughout our reception.
