We broke a lot of tradition at our wedding. We didn't have a garter, and neither did I throw a bouquet. Instead, I gave the bouquet to the couple who was married the longest, which was my great aunt.
Another thing that made my wedding memorable was the fact that my best friend was my maid of honor. What made it special was, we hadn't seen each other in over 5 years.
We actually had a very simple, and relaxing honeymoon. We had the opportunity to dog-sit for my boss's daughter. They stay on the most beautiful hunting lodge, a few kilometers outside of Grahamstown. We were surrounded by magnificent animals, from Kudu to Giraffes, we even had a close encounter with a buffalo. It truly was a memorable time of just being free with my husband.
My wedding dress was something I never really knew I needed. It was a mermaid gown with a very long train. I wanted the total opposite, but as soon as I tried it on, I knew that was my dress.
I wanted a very natural look for both my bridesmaids and I. (My hairdresser and sister-in-law did not disappoint.) I have naturally curly hair, and asked my hairdresser (Marie Adams) to enhance the curly look. My hair was have tied back, with curls just effortlessly flowing onto my shoulders.
My sister-in-law (Bianca Voogt) did our make-up, and I couldn't have been happier. Once again, I wanted everyone to have a very natural look. (But I just HAD to go with a small wing on the sides of my eyes!)
I just have to mention that I mostly supported small businesses, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
