My husband Matthew and I decided to write our own vows for each other. The most memorable moment for me was hearing what my husband wrote for me and the way he described our love for one another. After the vows I tried to put his ring on but being December it was a warm day and his fingers were swollen,I struggled to get the ring on. Everyone had a good chuckle and with help from my husband I managed to get the ring on. Another memorable moment was during the speeches of the best man and maid of honour. My maid of honour Aimee, is my twin sister and the best man was her husband. They live in New Zealand and unfortunately due to covid travel restrictions they weren’t able to make it to our wedding. Their speeches were recorded and played on a projector. They wrote an amazing song and sang a duet with the help of a ukulele. For those few minutes my husband and I stood in amazement with huge smiles and even shed a tear or two as we realised how fortunate we are to have a such special people in our lives.
Due to covid we unfortunately couldn’t travel. We did go on a mini moon for 2 days to Kolkol mountain lodge. It was absolutely amazing.
My wedding look I would describe as very vintage, rustic look. My wedding dress had 2 kinds of lace with a low back. It had a train to die for and a fitted center piece. It was so comfortable and really went well with my body type. My dress was made by Robyn Robert’s. My makeup and hair was done by Helga bridal hair and makeup. I went for a light smoky eye with a soft maroon finish. My shoes I bought on a website called Superbalist. It was a white shoe with a thick 5 inch heel. Jewellery was bought at lovisa but my hair piece was my something borrowed from my beautiful twin sister. My photographer was Chantel and May, she is spectacular. She caught all our special moments on camera. The mustard seed was our videographer, they made us feel so comfortable and made us laugh throughout the evening. My flowers were so beautiful and it was supplied by To-Netts of Paarl. Everything was so perfect I wouldn’t change a thing.
We got married at a little hidden gem called La Terra de luc wedding venue in Franshoek. It is a spectacular venue in the heart of the town. The was one little guest house called Hanepoot. There was no other accommodation on the farm.
About 3 months leading up to the wedding I starting going for tanning sessions as well as a facial month. I also started doing rebound classes a year and a half before the wedding and completely fell in love with the trampoline classes. My husband and I had our teeth cleaned just before the wedding and bought whiting tooth paste. 2
days before the wedding I had my nails and toe nails painted. My twin sister who moved on New Zealand paid for a spa the weekend before the wedding. I was spoilt rotten;)
Our decorations were mostly flowers and candles. We had hanging planks from the ceiling filled with proteas, white roses, penny gum, dragon snap aswell as baby’s breath. His was so beautiful. We had hanging bulbs between each plank with candles on the tables. We had flowers running down each table which replaced the runners. We had made our own wine labels with a short description about our love. We also had a packet with M&M’s inside as a party favour because my name is Megan and my husbands name is Matthew. We thought it was very fitting as we love M&M’s. The packed also served as a name.
Each window opening had a lantern with fairy lights inside. Myself and my husband made coasters for each wine guest which said please don’t take my drink I am dancing. That was used to put on top of your glass of you didn’t want the waiters and waitresses to take away your glass. We had our menu placed on the plate on top of the white material serviettes with penny gum onto to finish the look. We had a big wall with a curtain of fairy lights behind the bride grooms table. We had 2 big rustic chandeliers. On our dance floor we had a big sign that lights up which said M&M. We had lawn games out on the lawn during pre drinks. We hired all our goodies from a place called hire for you. Everything was made by a lady called Henriëtte.
The groomsman wore dark navy blue suits which was hired by Mr suit hire in Cape gate. All the groomsman wore bow ties were made from the same colour as the bridesmaid dresses. The groom has a tie.
My bridesmaid were my 4 beautiful sisters. Unfortunately my twin sister could not make it due to covid. We went for a dark dusty pink colour and the dresses were made by a family
friend called Sue. Each bridesmaids choose their own style dress.
My husband and I belong to the Durbanville Baptist church. Our pastor Keith Westberg married us. We did a 10
Week marriage course before hands.
Our photographer was Chantel
and May. She was absolutely fantastic, she was worth every penny. Our videographers were called the Mustard seed. They did a wonderful job catching all our special moments. We did not have a photo booth but we had a frame made that said #faughtwedding. We made a Instagram account so any photos taken can be uploaded onto Instagram so we can keep the photos for ever.
No we did not have a planner. We were fortunate enough to have had more than a year to plan the wedding so we had more than enough time to get everything sorted.
My dad has a gelandewagen which is a unique car. We used his vehicle on our wedding day.
Our venue supplied the food. Rina the owner of the farm makes delicious tradition Afrikaans food. It was to amazing for words. My friend Dianne decadence made my
cake as a weekend gift.
Henriette Borcherds ( h_brocherds) made our stationery. She was amazing. Our cake topper, invitations, table seating, name tags, welcome sign, table numbers, photo frame, guest log frame and confetti bags were all made by her.
Our reception looks beautiful. We had a dj called ( dj Wico) our first dance was a song called “ rest of our lives” by the light and the heat. We didn’t take dancing lessons but practices our dance in our kitchen in the evening. We had a song for the garter and bouquet toss. Our dance floor had big barn wooden doors which opened up onto a stoop which had the bar area. It was all linked which is what we wanted. Everyone dances the night away with a smoke machine and disco lights. It was the most fun I have ever had.
