Lockdown was implemented 2 weeks before our original wedding date, 11 April 2020. We quickly rearranged the whole shebang for November.
We were lucky enough to have every person we loved at our final wedding day on 21 November, which made this day the highlight of a very uneventful year.
Having my 92 year old grandmother as my flowergirl and our 1 year old furbaby, Archie, as the pageboy accompany us down the isle was extremely special.
We are very fortunate to have many talented friends who contributed to our amazing day. My sister, Ané Van Zyl, is a chef and made our wedding cake; both our wedding attire was custom made and tailored by two incredible friends, Lucia Uhlikova (@luciauhlukova_design) & Unita Meiring (@pinpointsewing).
And finally, getting married to the most important person in our life after a very long wait.
We are planning a big honeymoon for when we can safely travel again, but we did have a lovely minimoon to relax after a very eventful weekend.
Lloyd arranged for an incredible stay at Harbour House hotel in Hermanus, were we spent a few days exploring the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
I had two dresses, both custom made and designed by my incredibly talented friend, Lucia Uhlikova.
Lucia is incredibly skilled and due to the lockdown and extra time, we had so much fun experimenting and trying with different styles.
The ceremony dress was a fully beaded gown with a corseted bodice, and the party dress was a fun little number, with pearl beaded lace and goose & ostritch feather details.
My make-up and hair was done by one of my close friends who works as a proffesional make-up artist and stylist for television, Kathryne Marnewick.
We had the whole "do" at The ColourLab Rooftop Venue, in Salt River, Cape Town. The venue was artisticly quirky with incredible artwork and a 360 view of the entire Mother City.
We came across Dané Verwey Floral Design on instagram and fell in love with her unique approach to floral design. I completely trusted Dané and gave her complete creative freedom. She introduced us to Bianca from Event Architects, who provided us with the decor and final touches, as well as being the coordinator on the day.
Both Lloyd and I had NO IDEA what the final setup of the venue and flower arrangents looked like until we walked down the isle for the ceremony. We were blown away.

Lloyd wore a custom made & tailored, burgundy velvet tuxedo jacket with black satin lapel. A dear friend of mine, Unita Meiring, is an incredible designer, dressmaker and tailor.
Archie wore a custom tailored collar and burgundy velvet bowtie by myself (@nana_by_mia), to match with dad(the groom).
We chose to have our families as our wedding party, who were seated next to us at the alter
Lloyds cousin, Bradley Scott, officiated our wedding ceremony.
When we just got engaged and started the planning process, we came across wedding photography and video duo, @The_Geldenhuyses on instagram and fell in love with their photographic style. As we were going through their profile we realised that they were running a competition, we entered AND won! They are 2 incredible creatives and so blessed that our paths crossed.
The way the venue decor and flowers were set up allowed for many gorgeous photo opportunities. We also took photos in the streets of Salt River with against the magical background of Cape Town and local Graffiti artworks.
Bianca from Event Architect and her assistant, Amo, made sure everything ran smoothly
We wanted a more informal approach to our wedding, and did a roaming dinner service.
Our venue, The Colour Lab Rooftop Venue has a sister company Jack Rabbit, that did the catering for us.
The menu was filled with all our favourites food and snacks, from gourmet beef sliders and pulled pork tacos to zucchini fries and chicken wings. Everything was delicious!

After lockdown, we really just wanted to have a fun filled night, and a BIG party. Both our ceremony and reception was informal with more of a lounge set-up. We had beautiful colourful velvet lounge pods spread across the room where people could hangout and mingle, instead of formal table seating.
Another talented friend of ours, Johan Swannepoel, played accordian alongside Kirsten Adams on vocals and violin. We wanted french cafe style music for the pre and post ceremony entertainment, and these 2 almost stole our shine.
