It started more than 12 and a half years ago. I was pulling a prank on my best friend in varsity when this stranger caught me. Little did I know that this stranger will be my loving partner and my best friend who I will marry. After 4 months of hard work to try and win my heart bringing 1 orange Gerbera (my favorite flower) everyday I finally said yes to our first date. This was to go with him to his best friend’s brother’s wedding. And there the spark started. We have been together ever since 12 April 2010 and are finally getting married on the 14th of November 2020.
His mom has shares on a game farm just outside Nylstroom. We went there for the weekend with a few friends, his mom and sister as well as her partner. It was a casual day that Saturday going for an early game drive, making breakfast and chilling on the patio with the most beautiful view. It was about 2 in the afternoon when he asked me if I would like to go on a game drive. It is the hottest time on the farm and I found it odd as everyone else wanted to stay in the house. We went to the memorial bench that was build for the foreman who lost his life a few years back. We stacked stones on the memorial stone stack and talked some nonsense. Keep in mind we made a promise years ago to not get married, stay together for ever and travel the world. While talking Mitch asked me what would I say if he asks me to marry him, I pat him on the shoulder and said:” baby I know we ain’t getting married and I made peace with it, anyway if you are serious you would be on your knee. It was at that very moment that he went down on his knee and I knew today we are breaking that promise and making a new one. His version of the story is a lot more dramatic still complaining how the hot sand burned his knee
