Ruan and I started dating in 2011 when I was Grade 8 and he was Grade 10. I was pretty much stalking him behind one of the schoolpilars because I thought he was cute. One day he just decided to confront me during recess and the love story started from there.
The proposal was a complete and utter surprise. He told me that we are going wine tasting at Groot Constantia, and just a note we've been talking about his sister coming with us to our little adventures so that she can capture timeless moments with us on camera, so she went with us to Groot Constantia so I didn't suspect anything. We walked around and his sister noticed the camera wasn't working and I was just like its no big deal, mean while I didn't know what they were planning. Never the less she got the camera to work and we walked and admired the scenery that the vineyards offered. Ruan constantly going on about the beauty of the path beneath the trees basically telling his sister this is where he wants to ask me. She told him before hand that she is going to 'change lenses' and that is when she will put the ring box in her back pocket and he can get it. She then told me she is going to change lenses and that she wants a photo of Ruan looking at her and my back facing towards her. In my own thoughts I'm trying not to fall on the gravel road that we are standing on in my high heels. She then told me I can turn around and when I turned around there Ruan was on his knee. In my own shock I asked him 'you're joking' and he said no. He said in plain ' My pensie, ek is baie lief vir jou en wil die res van my lewe saam jou spandeer. Sal jy met my trou?' And I said YES!!!! I looked past the ring. Till this day I swear that I only saw him and nobody or anything else. It was a moment out of a fairytale. So perfect.
