How did your love story begin?

We met in the final year of doing our MBA’s at GIBS. I had recently had my heart broken and was not looking for anything new. Brendan (my now fiancé) was persistent! We quickly formed a special connection and I told friends that he is the type of guy a woman marries... at this point, I was still in denial that I had already fallen for him and was planning an international move...

Clearly, a Higher Hand was involved... we became inseparable & 7 months later I was pregnant with our beautiful baby boy (now 2 years old)!

My fiancé is a management consultant, so he travels the world. I also travel frequently for my job....Until now, we have only seen him every 2nd or 3rd weekend. The past 18 months, my mom has bee struggling with an illness and we almost lost her twice... through all of this, we have navigated the complexities of a long distance relationship, being separated and praying for the next (very short) weekend together! As you can imagine... being separated, managing a full time job and a baby (now busy toddler), mom in and out of ICU for 18 months and trying to maximize the 2 days you have together every 3rd week, has been extremely difficult. Our love grew stronger... I can honestly say that we are now more in love than before and cannot wait for the next chapter... together!

We now have the opportunity to move to Dubai (March) and we will finally be able to be together as a family for the first time!! We are counting the days...

Tell us all about the proposal.

Right before Brendan’s move to Dubai (Sept 2019), I was on my way to Spain for work. I knew he was planning to pop the question before he left - but he really made me wait until the last moment :-)

The day before I left, we drove out to Hartbeespoort and just enjoyed a relaxing breakfast with our little one. He then took us to De Hoek country hotel in Magaliessig for an “unplanned picnic lunch”... and although I knew what was happening, I got really nervous!

He had a private picnic set up for us, under gorgeous trees overlooking the estate. After a delicious lunch and hours of talking about our future dreams, he asked me to take a walk... all the while, one of the ladies from the hotel was following us with a camera
