It all started back in 2009 when we were introduced through mutual friends. We became best friends although miles apart. I lived in Durban and Trevor lived in Johannesburg. In 2012 we decided to go on a holiday to explore Europe together where we had nothing but fun! We touched down in South Africa in 2013 still as friends but the feels started becoming greater. We saw each other a few times after that and finally after his cousins wedding he asked me out. We did long distance for 3 years before he asked me to relocate to Johannesburg. December 2015 I packed up and relocated. 2 years later we bought our first house together in 2017. We got engaged in 2018 and will be married in September this year 2019. Dating for 6 years and soon to be married, 10 years of friendship and a lifetime more ❤️
Oh boy! He definitely took me by surprise! I am an only child and very close to my parents. We live in Jhb and my parents live in Durban. Last year 2018 my parents had told me they would not be able to see me for my birthday as my dad was traveling overseas the Monday of my birthday and my mom was away on business. Being an only child and close to my parents I couldn’t help but feel heartsore that I wouldn’t be able to see my parents for my birthday. Never the less Trevor had arranged for us to go for dinner the Friday night with a few close friends. Although my birthday weekend was not the usual I couldnt help but feel grateful for being able to at least spend it with Trevor and a few close friends. Friday arrived and I was extremely nervous for work as I am an Educator and had to deal with a very difficult parent. Trevor has told me he was off to Vreheid for business and would be home late. Being as blonde as I am I didn’t realize how far that actually was. As the morning went on I had sent him messages explaining that my meeting had gone well and that I hope he was safe. I was then asked by my HOD for my report memory stick which on that specific day could not find it anywhere! In a flat panic I ran to my Principal and asked if I may quickly go home and double check that I haven’t left the memory stick in the counter. When I arrived home Trevor was waiting for me as I opened the door and the first thing I said was “love, have you seen my memory stick?” Trevor had a little giggle and calmed me down to then tell me I don’t need my memory stick and that we are going away for my birthday. I really did not believe him and asked him 500 questions. He then assured me that my memory stick was not needed and that in fact my principal and HOD were all in on the plan to get me home and they had purposely hidden my memory stick from me. Bags packed off we went with me having no idea where we were off to! Along the way he made me open presents which got me really excited for my birthday. A few hours later we arrived at the Cathedral Peak Hotel! My dream of seeing snow on my birthday was finally coming true but little did I know Trevor had something else up his sleeve. We checked in, dropped off our bags and I was then told to get into the car. We took a short drive and arrived at the helipad. With soooo much excitement of me being able to maybe see snow I didn’t think of anything else! We took a beautiful 15minute flight to a quiet spot on top of one of the mountains overlooking the dam. We spoke and had some lunch, popped some champagne and I still remember thanking him for making such an effort for my birthday even though I could see my parents. We got up, went exploring and the next thing I saw was Trevor on one knee with the most beautiful ring! He asked and of course I said yes! We were also blessed with a fly by from an endangered eagle which is a sign of a blessing. Back to the hotel we went and we were told they had put us in the wrong room but we need to just pop into the bar quickly and as I opened the door there they were...my parents and his parents with champagne and tears of joy! What a surprise it was! The morning Trevor left for “business” he was actually dropping his parents at the airport to catch a flight to Durban where they met my parents and drove to the Drakensburg. They arrived earlier than us and sat at the bar and watched us take off as boyfriend and girlfriend and land again as future Mr and Mrs Leader! All I can say is he definitely went out of his way to make me feel even more special than ever before! Let’s just say that my birthday weekend was one to NEVER forget! A huge thank you to Cathedral Peak Hotel for making it an incredibly special weekend! @cathedralpeakhotel
