The entire day itself was memorable.
If we have to choose something that really stood out, it would have to be the speeches. My Maid of Honour, Kriszti Bottyan, brought me to tears with her amazing words. My uncle, Marc Wegkamp, was sweet and sentimental.
The groomsmen though. Oh boy, the groomsmen. Fred’s best friends, Matthew Berry and Kent Jeycocke, made us howl with laughter! These two men are born actors and really flaunted their skills in their performance. “Please look deeply into one another’s eyes... You are looking into the eyes of the person statistically most likely to kill you.”
The beautiful song my Fred wrote and recorded for me absolutely stole my heart! He’s the most talented musician I know and I am in awe of the sound that comes from within him. “Your big smiling eyes brings our future to life, this is where I wanna be...”

We went on a ‘mini-moon’ to Omega Luxury Resort in Clarens. It was a stunning break before facing the reality of work. In June, we will be heading over to the Maldives thanks to the Honeymoon Factory!
My hair was done by the brilliant Reinette from Salon Shalom. The morning of the wedding, we changed our minds 180 degrees! Reinette created a beautiful ponytail of curls with Lovisa pearl accessories. I have a thick head of hair that isn’t easy to work with and she just operated. She’s a genius.
My sister-in-law, Leilane Dacomb, made me feel like a princess. She’s a master in her craft and did my make-up for my fairytale wedding. She also spoilt me with Odyssey Nails for the big day. AND accessorized me with JDC pearls. Talk about spoilt!
My blush pink shoes came from Superbalist, I’m obsessed with their online store!
My garter was delicately made by my close friend and bridesmaid, Nadia Opperman.
Last but definitely not least. My dress and veil came from Bride and Co. The moment my mother-in-law and I laid eyes on my beautifully beaded dress, we knew it was the one. It’s very Gatsby style and I’m still in love! Since I chose not to have a train, I HAD TO go the extra mile with my veil and chose a stunning lace cathedral veil. I’m still in awe!
We got married at Glenburn Lodge and Spa. Many of our guests stayed in the hotel and chalets at Glenburn. This was amazing because our wedding day turned into a wedding weekend. Breakfast with all of our guests the morning after the wedding sent everyone home with smiles.
Voted as one of the top wedding venues in Gauteng, Glenburn Lodge has three wedding venues with guest capacities ranging between 60 and 300 guests.
Fred and I would occasionally set foot in Planet Fitness. The closer you are to the wedding day, the less time you find to workout (frustrating).
I went to Jacolien from Aiyana Beauty for Chemical peels leading up to the wedding. I’m very self conscious about my skin but it was flawless on the big day.
My Maid if Honour, Kriszti Bottyan, spoilt me with a back, neck and shoulder massage the day before the wedding. I didn’t notice the knots in my shoulders until that moment!
My outdoor furniture consisted of bar stools and tables as well as beer tables from Rain Events. This worked out perfectly when Quiz Master Rikus from Lloud Llama performed a fun quiz for the guests during our photoshoot.
The decor and flowers were done by Christa’s Creations. To say Christa is brilliant is an understatement! She introduced me to my new favourite flower called cockscomb... it blew me away! My wedding dream became a reality with her incredible attention to detail with each flower she included in the arrangements.
The Groom has his suit tailor made by a friend named Gerald. He looked super gorgeous all day and took my breath away!
The groomsmen looked seriously handsome in their shirt and stone chinos from Woolworths, burgundy bow ties from Eurosuit. and Stormtrooper cufflinks from LightInTheBox. The groom often joked stating that they looked like a barbershop septet (yes, he had 7 groomsmen!)
My bridesmaids looked beautiful! I bought their intricate lace dresses from LightInTheBox. Their dresses were elegant with a sneaky amount of cleavage. Their black block-heel shoes were also from Superbalist (I have an online shopping addiction).
Reinette also did their hair. I let them choose their own styles to reflect exactly who they are.
They really made the wedding day so special for me.
Oom Gerrie Strydom married us. He’s a really good family friend and a very cheeky man. “I, Catarina, swear never to get married again on the day the Blue Bulls are playing”
We contacted Hello Rademan to photograph our big day. They’re a spectacular couple and made everyone feel so comfortable. I’m not very comfortable in front of a camera but Reiner and Yolande kept me laughing throughout!
Nerina de Villiers is currently editing what she captured on our big day. She’s family and BRILLIANT at what she does. She always jumps at the opportunity to snap a shot or record something. She’s very talented and came up with amazing ideas on the big day! I’m looking forward to seeing the wedding video.
I technically didn’t hire a planner but my sister-in-law, Margaux van den Berg, from Blank Canvas Events was operating on the day of the wedding. I’m currently paying her in an abundance of love. She’s a very talented wedding planner and is highly regarded in her field. I’m so glad she was there to keep an eye out for any hiccups.
It was very plain and simple. My father-in-law collected me from the hotel room on a super cute little golf cart. The benefits of Glenburn Lodge ;)
Glenburn Lodge and Spa never disappoints with the food they prepare. We had an incredible buffet selection for all of our guests.
The wedding cakes were a gift from my amazing new family. Marne and Tannie Elize prepared mine and Fred’s dream cakes. We had Marne’s signature chocolate cake (Fred’s favourite) and a delicious carrot cake (mine and my mother-in-law’s personal favourite). We were blown away.

My bridesmaid, Nadia Opperman, arranged the best stationery for the wedding. She’s incredibly skilled in everything to do with weddings.
We took dance lessons from Andrea from Fred Astaire Dance. She made the experience so much fun! Fred picked the moves up super quickly while I was fumbling around with my 2 left feet.
Our sound and lighting was done by Audio Afrika, they’re amazing guys and seemed to enjoy the party themselves. Paul looked like a DJ in Ibiza with his moves behind the table.
Fred is a musician and recorded a beautiful song for me. I first heard it while I was walking down the aisle (what a lovely surprise!) and again when he sang it to me at the end of his speech.
