I've heard countless couples say their day was perfect.
Now that I've been there, I finally understand.
Our day was perfectly imperfect...
While getting ready, blue cloudless skies stretched across the horizon.
It was Sunday morning, the same day Hannes asked me to be his girlfriend, five years ago.
I remained surprisingly calm while getting ready - until the moment my father and I approached the aisle. At that moment I heard my own voice over the speakers. Knowing what a nervous wreck I could be, I decided not to sing, but to record a song and have it played just before I walk down the aisle. I sang My love, my life from Abba.
My favourite line being, "I know I don't posses you, with all my heart, God bless you. You will always be my life. You're my one and only.
Suddenly, when I heard my own voice, overwhelm washed over me. (I would later learn that Hannes shed a few tears at the exact same moment. He was the one completely caught off guard, after all.) This raw emotional moment, although not enjoyable at the time, would always remain with us.
If I had to describe us in a few words, I would say that we are a fun-loving, spontaneous couple.
When the time came for our couple shoot, it was raining cats and dogs.
Our photographer suggested that we do our couple shoot on another day.
I was hesitant, but agreed, if we could only take on shot in the rain!
What could have been a catastrophe, turned out to make the most gorgeous photos, if I may say so myself.
My most cherished moment must be this - running barefoot in the rain with the love of my life at my side.
