The day was finally there ! It feels like a big concert is about to start. The excitement started pumping when the make-up artist arrived!
I had this very noticeable calm feeling over me, no stress, just contentment. What will be will be. This also gave me remeasurement that I was marrying the right man, my Father approves.
Somehow the wedding stress got to me (lack of sleep and so on, only a bride will know... haha) and I became ill with lung infection the Friday before the wedding. I was coughing my lungs out, leading to less sleep before the wedding on Saturday. The wedding day adrenaline helped a bit with keeping my coughs and illness off all the photographs.
Highlights of my day was seeing my father for the first time, as an Afrikaans farmer, a tough man of little words and little tears, his expression was priceless.
Praying with my husband before the ceremony and listening to him read his vows. We had to bless the day.
We had a symbolic foot wash at our ceremony. This was truly magical , apparently we had everyone in tears... I was so focused on what was happening in front of me that I didn't notice.
We played some games instead of the traditional garter and bouquet toss. The men had a dance- off with paper bags over their heads. The groom removing the bags, the last man standing wins. The men didn't know they were getting less and less on the dance floor. This had everyone in tears, of laughter this time. Guests were rolling on the floor as they were laughing. SO MUCH FUN !
THEN WHEN MY LONG DRESS CLIPPED OFF, THE PARTY STARTED !
I can say that cough medicine mixed with MCC leads to a bit of memory loss at the end of the day ;)
Yes ! Local was lekker. We did a road trip to the Baviaans kloof via the Garden Route. So glad we did, as I had to cancel our first day due to me feeling like dying.
The rest was so well deserved and very much needed! Giving me almost the entire honeymoon to recover. I felt much better on our last day back.
We still had an amazing time together. Me chilling and sleeping and my husband enjoyed fishing in some exotic and remote spots along the coast.
Future brides...definitely go on honeymoon, even if it's to a local getaway spot for at least a week.
I was going for a bohemian, elegant, earthy and practical look.
Bronzy make-up with a nude lip.
"She" (as the wedding designer calls the dress) was custom designed and made from large lace to add to the boho and elegant feel. A fit and flare , A - line style with no cut line in the middle. Adding a bit of length to this shorty bride.
Jewellery was my something borrowed and blue - a vintage piece from my grandmother (she could even remember that she gave it to me years ago).
Shoes was definitely geared towards comfort , but also went well with our wedding theme. I am a huge leather lover !
Ear rings were elegant and simple.

A small coastal neighbourhood. We looked for a venue / town so close to a venue so that all the guests could stay over and not have to drive far. The area was perfect.
4 months before the wedding.
I didn't go to extreme dieting. I just ate healthy and made conscious food decisions and drank water.
I was a healthy bride, not a skinny one :) I didn't want to go from really thin to my "normal" self after the wedding. That's always a shocker.
Starting 2 month before the wedding:
I went for a couple of treatment of the Black Diamond laser facial to refine my pores.
I had a teeth bleaching kit made by a professional dentist.
I did a couple of EMS training sessions just for that extra help in toning up a bit.
Went for a fun spa treatment with the bride squad, mini pedi's and relaxing at Fancourt.
A touch of boho elements, single stem colourful focus flowers, succulents, salvage shop copper pieces and two large focus points (one at ceremony and one at reception).
The last thing I wanted, was for it to be a DIY wedding. I didn't want to put the stress on anyone or any guest. In the end , what we wanted, was out of our budget done by a service provider.
Our decor and decor flowers were done by my two mothers and a lovely team their friends. They did an amazing job! We upcycled great grannies crochet work and used it in the dream catcher and photo frame element.
