How did your love story begin?

I was meant to find my house mate for 2016. Instead ...I found my Prince Charming (future husband ;) ).

In December 2015 I received the good news that I have been accepted to join in to a house sharing opportunity in Obz. A beautiful old Cape Dutch house on Polo Road in observatory with 2 other house mates. One of them named David de Klerk.
In January I fetched my keys from David, my soon to be house mate at that time and now soon to be husband, and moved in to my cozy bedroom in the Polo house.

David was always and still is a quiet, super clever, book worm type of guy (good-looking nerd) and I was always out hanging with friends. So we sort of lived passed one another and for the first few months didn't really talk much. Just the usual "Hi" and "Bye". David was in his last year of Medicine at UCT and I was working at an architectural firm.
But one evening we clicked over a glass of JC Leroux after a sad occurrence in David's life and well as they all say... the rest is history :).

From there on we had a few ups and downs trying to figure one another out, and eventually I moved out but we kept dating.
David also had to move at the end of 2016 to Durban to start his Internship as a young docter in 2017. For the first year we did long distance and at times it was really tough, but we made it work. In that year we also had our first overseas experience together and this was just the start of all our adventures together.

The following year (2018) I moved to Durban to be with him. Our first place together and I didn't know how exciting and full of surprises Dave can be THAT year... (To Be Continued..)

Tell us all about the proposal.

... After doing long distance for a year between Cape Town and Durban, I moved to Durban to be with my prince.
We spent our off days walking and running on the promenade and having early breakfasts at our favorite little beach front coffee place, Bike and Bean.

One morning after David's call he rushed home and demanded that I sit on the sofa. "Just sit there on the sofa and wait for me; I need to talk to you" or something like that he shouted. And obviously I was fearing for the worst.
But then at the same time he was excited. He rushed to his bedroom, and rushed back to the blue 2-seater sofa with a box behind his back.
Obviously I immediately knew, but so in shock I started crying and laughing and it was just beautiful.
I cant remember all of the beautiful things he said but it was beautiful... That Super-clever-quiet guy has a way with words when he needs to tell you how he feels.

So after I said yes, I obviously asked... why? How? now? How did you make the decision to ask me to get married now (because I could tell it wasn't planned at all... and the best moments are never planned).
So he said after his call he was over looking the beautiful ocean from Addington Hospital and that's when he just knew its time. A few days earlier he asked his mom over the phone when the time is right. She said, "You will just know". And he knew.
So no fancy beach proposals with random people popping out behind rocks to take pictures.

On the 18th of March 2018 we got engaged in our tiny 2-bedroom apartment on the old broken blue sofa.

The End
