Magical Moments

As any bride will say, the day went by incredibly fast. But there was the ceremony part of our big day that was the most special part for me and David:
It was 8 o'clock in the morning and the big day was here. 4 am David and I are getting married!
To be honest... I didn't feel so great the morning of the wedding and I hoped it was just as everyone says, 'the nerves are kicking in'. But luckily, I was calmer than what a bride should be…

By about 12 o'clock we were all starting to get ready and of course, Eskom also had to play a part in our big day. So not only did we die from the heat but my hair fell flat 3 times and didn't want to curl at the end of the day!!
But before we could wipe our eyes out it was time to go to the car! And then the hair didn't matter anymore and all I was thinking about was walking down the aisle to David on time, and whether he was going to cry when he saw me. As the saying goes ... "the bride is never on time" ... I was half an hour late (ESKOM) and my poor husband and guests cooked in the heat of Stellenbosch's summer in December. But we quickly got out of the car and the music started and I lived my dreams ... The dream of our wedding day as I repeatedly listened to Civil Twilight's 'Oh Daniel' finally came true and I still felt as if I dreamed as I walked to David. My husband ... the most attractive man anyone could marry at the end of the vegetable garden at De Meye where we held the ceremony. As I walked down the aisle, very focused on how fast I’m walking, I looked straight into David’s eyes and I could see just how the tears started rolling down his cheeks. The most precious and most beautiful moment of our lives. My father then handed me over to him and, as always, made a tiny joke to kill the "seriousness" of it all. After the ceremony, it was like I was in a dream, never-ending, when do I wake up…?? "You are my wife" repeated David to me and it all became a reality that he and I will forever be husband and wife. Our happily ever after.
The only way to describe our day is like what everyone wants it to be ... A fairy tale and butterflies in your stomach. I, his princess walking towards him and him, my prince at the end of the vegetable garden in his sea-green suit.

The Honeymoon

YES!!!! And what a honeymoon it was...

To some people, our honeymoon sounded nuts. Everyone knows after a wedding you go and chill on a beach (usually Mauritius or Seychelles. Instead, I really wanted to see Europe and so we jetted off to Europe for a month's traveling!!
We started off in the romantic city of Paris and then went on and visited Lyon, Prague, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam and ended our trip with family in Osnabruck, Germany.

But... The honeymoon didn't have such a "romantic" start...

As we were about to board the plane, having checked all our bags through and on to our Virgin plane, they refused to let me board the plane!!
They said I needed an in-transit Visa for landing in Heathrow, London... And I never had this document.

So there goes David, off to London and I needed to buy a ticket via Dubai.
In a panic and obviously crying my eyes out, I left my husband and called my parents in law to fetch me from the airport in Joburg because my next flight was only the next day.
Eventually, I got on my plane (suck it Heathrow) and met up with David a day later in Paris.

After all the drama, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip! Even though we weren't quite 'rested' when we got back, it was all worth it in the end and we definitely had a one of a kind and magical honeymoon!

My Special Day

Elegant, feminine and timeless

The Venue

We got married at De Meye Wine Farm, just outside of Stellenbosch.

Our guests stayed across the road at Muldersvlei

My Bridal Beauty Regime

I went on the 28-day diet and lost about 8 kilograms. After this, I just jogged every so often and maintained my weight :)

Wedding Elements

Sitting Pretty did all of our decor and flowers and it was exactly how we imagined it to be!

We went for a rustic understated, timeless look.
We also didn't want our guests to struggle to see each other across the table, so decor and flowers were minimal.

My mom was the biggest hero for greenery at the end of the day.... Being on a tight budget, she and a couple of guys handpicked a bunch of greenery and tied it to the ceiling of the reception venue. This tied everything together and it just looked incredible.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

My husband had a suit made by a man called Mr Talip in lower Observatory. He made him the most incredible suit for our wedding day so David ended up making 2 others in different colors.

We hired the groomsmen suites from Eurosuit and bought the ties.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

Floral green dresses bought at Poetry.

Marriage Officer

Pastor Roy de Villiers. My best friends dad :)

My Captured Moments

The main Photographer was Sara Silva from Mint Tea Photography and she definitely captured the most beautiful moments of our wedding day!

To add some fun to the event, we also had a photobooth.

We used De Meye's events planner. Her name is Margot and she works directly with De Meye.
