We had the most amazing 2-week honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka! We were definitely not the traditional type of honeymooners - relaxing on the beach the entire day, sipping on cocktails. No, we like exploring, meeting new people, learning about the local culture, snorkeling, and hiking.
My husband planned the entire trip, with the help of Bookings.com, all by himself. All I had to do was to get on the airplane.
I was awestruck by this enchanting and colourful island with old-fashioned train trips, tea plantations, hiking trails, excellent food, creativeness and wildlife! The people were so warm and friendly.
What a great way to spend one's honeymoon. I would go back in a heartbeat.
I wanted a simple, yet elegant, look. My jewellery/accessories represented something borrowed and something new. I wanted to involve the Swellendam community and therefore asked two local ladies to do my hair and makeup.
My wedding dress represented my personality to the "T": A beautiful Robyn Roberts “Tamra” Wedding Gown in Ivory, comprised of an embroidered lace bodice and a soft mesh skirt. The bodice was delicately beaded to give it that perfect shimmering finish.
We got married just outside Swellendam, the third oldest town in South Africa, on a venue, overlooking a part of the Langeberg Mountain range, called Joubertsdal.
The owners of Joubertdal were most warming and accommodating.
We, together with our family, stayed at the venue in beautiful farm style, self catering, cottages.
Situated right at the foot of the Langeberg mountain range, Joubertsdal is 300 hectares of farmland and natural fynbos.
I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle in general and therefore didn't change a lot with regards to my exercise and eating plans. I had a gelish pedi and mani just before the big day in order for my nails to still look pretty while we were on honeymoon.
Both my husband and I are in love with nature and very minimalist. Our décor represented just that. Natural colours, candles, fairy lights and neutral flowers/plants. My entire family helped with the décor, flowers and lighting. Almost everything was DIY and planned months before our actual wedding day. We wanted and got a relaxed and warm atmosphere.
My husband hired a navy suit from Bride&Co with a slim tie. His two groomsmen wore the same looking ties as my husband's and wearing navy pants with white collar shirts.
I got a few ideas from Pinterest and decided on metallic light blue, ankle length, skirts. My talented mother in law made my bridesmaids' skirts from scratch. I wanted my bridesmaids to bring in their own style and feel comfortable with their look. I, therefore, gave them the choice to wear any style top it just had to be a white, off white, cream shade.
Ds Lounette Engelbrecht, a God fearing, extraordinary woman.
Elana van Zyl, a young mother of two captured our wedding day. She is extremely talented and made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera.
My mother, who has the endurance of a marathon runner and two of our very close family friends. They mostly took on DIY projects. They turned old wine bottles into art centerpieces, grew desert roses from stem cuttings, sourced flowers to put my wedding bouquet together - they did everything you can imagine. I'm very fortunate with all the wonderful, loving and creative women who surround me.
My dad, the perfect gentleman, drove me to the chapel and walked me down the isle. He only have daughters, and I the first to get married, so it was a very emotional journey for him.
We were honoured to have Two Chefs as our Caterers. They were voted Pink Book's Best Wedding Catering in 2019. I'm a very lucky girl as the co-owner is now my brother in law.
