My special day was a long time coming since this was not my first marriage but my second. My first marriage being a Christian one but this one being extraordinarily special as it was hindu. The nerves got to me as with any bride but special family and friends kept me sane...lol. A few of my special moments ranges from entering the temple yard and seeing my husband for the first time and his expression when seeing to the most memorable of his tying the nuptial or Thali string around my neck. All of these made for an awesome and wonderful experience. The vendors that I chose also made my experience one of a kind, from my make up and hairdresser to the phenomenal photographer as well as décor artist who all made my day more special than I could possibly imagine...
We went to Lake Eland Game Reserve to unwind after a stressful run up to an awesome wedding.
My wedding look was one that was unique and different. I did not go with the traditional colours of red, gold and cream but went with vibrant and bright colours as spring was the theme of the day.
The amazing and talented Arthie Sugrib of Unique Brides did my hair, make-up and dressing and with her unique design concept made me look so different that I could not recognise myself in the mirror. My words to her...you made all my dreams come true :)
The wedding outfit chosen was not a traditional sarie. It was a silk and lace sarie in Cerise, orange and vintage gold and everything matched accordingly. All jewelry and accessories was hired and provided by Unique Brides.
I must say Ms Arthie comes fully equipped to make any bride a showstopper on her wedding day...
We got married at the temple that I attend in Bayview, Chatsworth. Havenside Gramma Devi Alayam provided the most personal intimate affair for all our guests. Due to the temple having a special place in my heart and having a close knit relationship with the temple members, they went above and beyond to make our day a memorable one. I had close family who travelled from as far as Cape Town for this day and could not have asked for anything more.
I skipped all the fancy treatments and went with all herbal remedies from my mum and aunt :)
My décor artist took all my ideas and my vision and turned it into a simple yet elegant spring day event with a punch full of colour. Our colour scheme was cerise, orange and gold. The idea stemmed from my proposal sari and from that day every little element was to that theme from the serviettes, to the cake, to the lighting, everything went with the colours chosen.
We had no groomsmen. But my husband went old school with a Grey Yves Saint Lauren doubled breasted suit as we wanted to be unique. He accompanied the suit with a white long sleeve shirt and grey detail coupled with an orange tie that matched my wedding blouse perfectly. The men from the grooms family had orange boutonnieres and my family had pink boutonnieres all to match my sarie as well as the colour scheme.
I did not have bridesmaids as such but had a sister stand behind me to assist...she co-ordinated with my colour scheme by wearing pink and orange.
Our officiating priest was Guru Subramoney. He provided lots of jokes to lighten our spirits and ease our nerves :)
All my photography and videography was done by the amazing duo of JTG Photography. They captured every single moment of the day and could not have asked a more amazing couple to capture our wedding day. Job well done from the sneak peaks received thus far :)
No I did all of the planning together with my mum and aunt and husband.
I was taken to the wedding by a family friend, Mya chatted with me and made me laugh before driving me in a fancy Mercedes sports car to the temple.
My husband went to the temple with my dream vehicle, which was a ford ranger XLT in true 4 x 4 style by his friend.
The meal that was made was prepared by our temple members and made with lots of love for me. Veg breyani, salad, soji, veg pickle and snacks...
My cake was something of note prepared by my cousin, who transported the cake from Grand West casino in cape town to Durban. poor girl was over weight at the airport due to all the sugar flowers that was transported. It was a surprise for me as she had not only made the cake but individual cupcakes for each. everything was co-ordinated according to my colour scheme and it was an awesome surprise and gift from my cousin who is not just my cousin but my best friend and sister...and not forgetting elly who was her partner in crime with keeping as much as possible a secret.
I designed my own wedding invitations, thank you notes and table numbers all by myself. I wanted to be as hands on as possible.
Our reception was a simple affair with a few formalities and did not have dancing persay. The sound and music was prepared and played by the temple members. We had lunch and pictures after the formalities and due to rituals that needed to be conducted had to keep things short and sweet. We did have our first dance to Shayne Wards Breathless at my husbands home where we continued the celebrations after further rituals.
