Our wedding day was such a special day for us because we got to spend it with the people that we really care and love most in our lives. Some of my highlights and memorable moments:
1) being on time while my husband was running late haha!
2) seeing my husband at the alter looking extremely nervous yet excited.
3) having my only grandfather attend and witness me marrying the love of my life.
4) our guests pouring out so much love and support for us.
5) taking the day in, being present in the moment and appreciating how things fell into place.
6) seeing the outcome of all the planning and work that went into making the day what it was for us.
My husband and I spent a few days in Wilderness along the Garden Route. We stayed in a tree top cabin at Moontide Guest Lodge (http://moontide.co.za) overlooking the Wilderness Lagoon. It was just the break we needed from the hustle and bustle of wedding planning. Our stay at Moontide was so relaxing and peaceful and they prepared the most amazing breakfasts for us! We love the Garden Route as we love being out exploring in nature and the weather was amazing which made it all the more enjoyable.
My makeup look was very natural with a pop of colour on my lips. Blush Makeup & Hair (Alicia and Dianne) did an amazing job with my makeup and hair! I don't know much about makeup and don't wear makeup often, but Alicia just got me from the get go. I did not want to look overbearing as I am not one to favour the limelight. I did not even want false lashes and Alicia just knew exactly what to do and made me feel comfortable with the makeup that I had on. I wore a crimson red colour stay lipstick and gloss by Revlon which lasted all day. My hair was in curls in a low up-style with a few curls hanging out around my face. My hair and makeup gave me a vintage/bohemian look which is exactly what I was going for.
My wedding dress was designed and made by Didi Couture. Didi and her team are so professional and such experts in getting the right dress for me. I was so impressed with Didi and her team since my first consultation. I went in not knowing what style I liked or what would suit me. Didi had me trying on so many dresses and looking at different types of lace during my two hour consultation. She knew exactly what dress would suit me perfectly, but kept it aside until I tried on all her other dresses.
When she brought out my dress I instantly fell in love with it. The colour, the textures and the fit was a perfect match for me and my personality. It was a fit and flare dress, there were three layers of lace on my dress which was imported from France and the beading, crystals and diamante's were all embroided by hand by Didi and her team. Didi just got me and instinctively knew what I would love - that is just how good she is. I would 100% recommend to any bride for absolute quality and attention to detail!
My earrings were from Forever New and for the reception I wore a baby's breath flower crown which was made by Flowers By Arlene. My shoes were from Bata (theeeee most comfortable heels ever!). I also had a pair of soft pink ballet shoes from Edgars as a back up, but I didn't need to wear them :)

We got married at the Ou Stal Equestrian Estate in Stellenbosch. We held our ceremony in the forest area on the estate and held our reception in their 200 year old-Dutch style building which is a National Heritage site. We were looking for a venue that was a bit different to what we usually see and we also wanted the option of having a brunch wedding which not a lot of other wedding venues offered. The estate is a farm in its purest form and is a working equestrian farm. The venue was close enough to the City and our guests therefore did not need to stay over.
I prepped my face for makeup as I do not wear makeup often. I changed my moisturiser a few months before getting married and used a moisturiser by Aloe to hydrate my skin as I had dry skin on certain parts of my face.
I went for a lash lift a few weeks before my wedding as I did not want false lashes on my wedding day. I had my lash lift done at Maria Beauty Studio and she also shaped my eyebrows for me
Because I wanted to have red lips and was looking for a long wear colour that wouldn't come off while eating or drinking, I prepped my lips by exfoliating them twice a week leading up to my wedding day....and yes, I used a toothbrush to do the exfoliating haha! The things we do for beauty!
The décor followed a woody, floral and bohemian theme. Our colour scheme was blush pink, sage green and gold.
We made our own wooden décor such as the signage boards and crates. We decorated all sorts of glass jars with lace, buttons, ribbon and hessian. Due to our drought, we decided to start growing succulents in our garden to use as part of our décor to add to the sage green in our colour scheme.
JeZe Events (http://jezeevents.wixsite.com/jezeevents) made our wooden table names for the reception. The table names were words of the fruit of the Spirit such as joy, love, peace etc. We also got a few lasercut items on sale from Epro Products (http://www.eproproducts.co.za/lasercutdecor/) such as our ring box and "bride" and "groom" signage.
For the center pieces, we placed a wooden crate upside down on a table with different sized/shaped jars on top with white and different shades of pink flowers. The decor flowers we procured ourselves from Alsmeer Flowers the day before the wedding (http://alsmeer.co.za). We also used vintage books which were wrapped with lace, ribbon or both and placed them onto the table. We also placed big succulents on top of the books again to bring out the sage green.
The bouquets and flowers crowns were prepared by Arlene of Flowers By Arlene (www.flowersbyarlene.co.za). She incorporated our colour scheme so beautifully in our bouquets and flower crowns. The bridesmaids flower crowns were made with baby's breath and greenery as they wore sage green and white. Their bouquets were subtle and simple (just the way I like it!) with lots of greenery and hints of white. My bouquet was beautifully orchestrated with succulents, shades of pink roses and greenery wrapped in hessian. My bouquet really stole the show as the combination of colours and its softness just looked absolutely stunning. The bouquets and flower crowns made by Arlene definitely added to the bohemian feel that I was going for and I loved them. Arlene was amazing to work with. I had one meeting with her after being let down by a few florists and she immediately grasped the ideas that I had and matched them so perfectly to what I had in mind. She is a real visionary and works with such passion, it is amazing to see.

My husband had a three piece tailor-made suit done by Gareth Duncan of GD Suits (http://gdsuits.co.za). He only decided to wear the pants and waistcoat. He wore a natural, almost stone like, colour slim fit pants with a check colour waistcoat. The groomsmen wore two piece suits (pants and jacket) in the same colour and their suits were from Markham and Carducci. They paired their suits with brown belts and brown leather shoes from David Jones (Woolworths).
The all wore the same floral ties which is where our colour scheme was brought into their attire. Their ties and pocket squares were the same floral print of off white, sage green and pink flowers (also David Jones).
My mother and I made the buttonholes for all the men using small succulents, greenery and twine.
Our ring bearer/page boy wore a three quarter pants, waist coat and cap in the same material as my hubby's waist coat.
I presented three bohemian looks to my two bridesmaids because I am so bad with options, I had them choose which look they liked the most. They opted for long soft tulle sage green skirts and white tops. My Man of Honour was dressed like a beautiful lady and paired the tulle skirt with a plain white camisole. The other bridesmaid paired her skirt with a white lace top. They both had flat open toe sandals on and minimal gold accessories. To complete their bohemian looks they wore white and green flower crowns made by Flowers by Arlene (www.flowersbyarlene.co.za).
Their hair and makeup was also done by Blush Makeup & Hair (Alicia and Dianne) (www.blushmakeupandhair.co.za). Their makeup looks were a bit more dark and bold. They had their lashes done and opted for a more plum like colour on their lips. Their hair was loose in curls with their flower crowns on top.
I had two flower girls who had their dresses made by Elzanne Deetlefs of Lavish Couture. I only had one blurry photo of the style of their dresses, got the material from Studio47 and handed it over to Elzanne. The girls wore flat gold pumps and each had a baby's breath flower crown on which was made by Flowers by Arlene. Their hair is naturally curly and I preferred to have it that way to add to the bohemian/natural theme that I was going for.
Our marriage officer was our pastor, Rev. Philipp Hauf of Cape Grace Congregational Church (http://capegrace.org.za). He met with us a couple of times before our wedding day to counsel us and prepare us for marriage. He also sorted out all our Home Affairs documentation, we didn't have to worry about a thing. He was always available to us whenever we needed to see him and was always willing to help and guide us on our journey.
Nikolai Polzenhagen of Nikolai Polzenhagen Photography (http://www.nikolaip.com). I was very specific about what I wanted from our photographer and Nikolai provided everything I wanted into one complete package (i.e. two photographers, photo books, photo booth etc.). We had two photographers from the beginning to the end. I am very shy in front of the camera (being an introvert and all), but Nikolai made me feel very comfortable and was really funny which helped a lot. Nikolai specialises in wedding photography and is so professional and on point with every shot.
I did not have a wedding planner. I, together with my husband, mother, father and bridesmaids planned the wedding. It was a family effort lol!
I arrived in a beautiful, classy 1958 turquoise Chevrolet Biscayne together with my father and bridesmaids. My husband and his groomsmen arrived together in one of the groomsmen's vehicles.
Our wedding cake was made by a family friend who has been making cakes for us for years. She always knows exactly what I want when I explain an idea to her and this time was no different. We had a four tier chocolate cake in our wedding colour scheme with two blush pink flowers on the side of the cake.
The catering was done by Bonita of Sunbeach Weddings and Draping.
I found the idea for our wedding invitations and save-the-dates on pinterest. Luckily my husband is a graphic designer by trade and I love doing DIY crafts in my spare time so we could design and make our own save-the-dates. We bought the necessary items from Merrypak. They also have a printing service so we just printed the cards by them. The thank you cards we also designed ourselves and just had them printed at Merrypak.
Our wedding invitations was made by JeZe Events (http://jezeevents.wixsite.com/jezeevents). We took the idea to them and they just brought it to life. They also did our laser cutting for us.
I had an emergency operation three weeks before our wedding and was not able to even drive let alone dance haha! The operation threw us off and we completely forgot about choosing a wedding song until a few days before the wedding. We opted for a slow number and danced to Perfect by Ed Sheeren and Beyoncé. It didn't require much movement from me which was perfect lol!
We had a DJ who was a friend of a friend ;) and he brought all the necessary sound equipment with him.
