Rob and I got married on March 3 2018,it was the most beautiful day, not a breath of wind and clear skies on the perfect hills of constantia mist. We had been planning this fairytale wedding for a year and as it was an empty shell this really did take ALOT of planning. Our wedding was the second wedding to ever take place at this venue.
It is really difficult to mention specific highlights as it was all so special, but I’ll pick out a few surprises. We had three different sections to our wedding. The Ceremony was lovely we lit a candle afterwards to connect our two family’s together (we keep this candle and will light it once a year on our anniversary) afterwards we headed up to the pre reception where we had lawn games, waiters handing out tapas starters, champagne and and drinks in old wheelbarrows. Entering into this fairy garden was a huge old door(creating the idea of entering a different universe) we cut the cake here (the most delicious chocolate cake made with great love and care from a very special lady) the photos took about an hour and a half, with some special moments. We then moved into the reception area where the rest took place. The bridesmaids and I surprised Rob with a Spice Girls song to end off their speeches which was a good laugh. We had been practicing all year for our first dance which was choreographed, the song was kiss me:) in between dinner and changing for our first dance we had cousin Marco who kept the rest of the friends and family entertained with a fire poi show. Each table had part of our love story and journey as a couple on it as a table ‘number’ you had to go around to all the tables to complete and read our journey together through the 10 years. I will upload and share our story in the pictures. As mentioned before the whole wedding was a highlight. I couldn’t have wished for a more perfect day :)
Yes, we left for Seychelles the next morning tired but excited:) The first hotel we stayed at was Paradise sun in praslin (This was by far the best destination, it was really relaxing, more of a boutique style) and the second was Constance Ephelia in mahe.
I studied fashion design so when it came to the dress I knew exactly what I wanted. I went with a Berta inspired dress. I tweaked it here and there, I had Eve in Claremont make it up for me, I was really happy with her work she made my bridesmaids dresses as well as the skirt I changed into for the first dance. My mother also had an outfit made up by Eve which was lovely. I would highly recommend her. My shoes were Steve Maddens, they were the cutest mauve open strappy heels with fluff over the toes. They were quite a talking point :)
My mother bought me some beautiful lacy designer panties, I didn’t wear a bra as my dress was open so Eve had built in cups. My hair was done by a very special friend Angie (Hair Philosophy) who also happens to be the best hairdresser in town ‘lucky me'
I had 2 awesome make up artists on site, it took me ages to find the perfect candidates for this job. The lady that did my make ups name was Sashka, I went with a natural look and cat eyes. The other lady Sian did my bridesmaids hair and make up,she came with an apprentice. I would highly recommend both of them.
I decided not to wear a necklace as my dress was really detailed with a low neckline so I didn't want to take away from that, I wore a pearl bracelet and earings with swarovski crystals that my mother gave me as a gift on the day.
We got married at Constantia Mist, there is a lot of accommodation in the area which was great for all the guests that either came from afar or didn’t want to drive home. Uber’s were also readily available.
I just kept up the regular cardio, and went for a mother/daughter massage the week before. I had eyelash extensions done and nails by Jamie :) I use Environ on my skin so I went to the clinic a month before to have a mild chemical peel. I didn't want to do anything out of the ordinary in case something went wrong.
Our venue was an empty shell so we had to build up a wedding from scratch. We went with an event company who managed and set up for us. They coordinated everything when it came to flowers set up etc. The theme of our wedding was an enchanted forest/fairytale wedding. Floral was natural with soft coloured roses lots of greenery in between. We had a large stretch tent in the reception filled with fairy lights and naked lights on the outside. (We had a lot of fairy lighting Inside and out) the tables were round and chairs Tiffany style. Decor all had a natural warm feel. We had a rented bar in the corner and a dj set up opposite. There was a photo booth set up next to the dj stand filled with all sorts of props( this was a huge success people couldn’t get enough of it) pictures speak a thousand words so please have a look at my gallery.
Rob wore a suit from Zara, and the groomsmen got their suits from Woolies. The suits were light Shades of grey. Rob wore funky braces while the groomsmen plain braces and white linen shirts. They had underwear on which said groom and groomsmen. Rob wore happy socks with dogs on and the groomsmen happy socks with cats printed on. Navy Shoes from Aldo. I had cuff links made up for Rob with a special msg engraved onto them❤️
My bridesmaids wore beautiful off the shoulder dresses by Eve, I had found the initial design off Pinterest and tweaked the dresses according to each friends body type. The colours were soft pastels from pink, mauve, to almost grey. The had sandals with a bit of sparkle and each wore matching chains with a diamante.
We had two one on the day and one the day before as the one on the day is my uncle who resides in Canada so couldn’t legally marry us here in SA, the pastor the day before who legally married us name is Barry Lindsay.
Our photographers name is Ronelle Kruger she had done a friends wedding before and I thought her work was awesome, so decided to use her myself. We had two videographers we were lucky enough to have them as they have known me from young so volenteered to do my wedding as a gift. They did some awesome work editing, we are really happy. They work with a company called libre vision in Cape Town. We had a photo booth as well which seemed to really be a hit
Yes we went with a company called Just Imagine. They dont usually manage the event they made an exception for us though. They usually just hire out.
Myself and the bridesmaids stayed at a lovely villa the night before which was close by, we took our own transport up to the venue where there were two rooms waiting for us to gt ready in overlooking the ceremony area, the nerves were real :)
We used Annalize catering herself and Oliver are well known in Cape Town and were top notch. The food was delicious. I heard about her through a family member, we went with starters, mains (plated) and desserts which they laid out around 9:30/10. Our cake was a naked Lindt chocolate with floral all around made privately, it was decadent.
Reproman did our printing a lovely lady named Sam halped us out with design
Rob and I took dance lessons for a year with a private instructor Hendrick that I happened to meet through a social occasion, the lessons were a lot of fun so much so that we continue with them today still with a group of friends. Our dance was choreographed the track was kiss me by Sixpence non the richer.
Our sound and lighting was done through the event coordinators outsourced company, we told them exactly what we wanted but didn't get to much more involved than that. We had two djs, they were on site from the ceremony through to 3am in the morning, they really managed to keep the party going.
