It was a freezing day between the mountains of Matroosberg Nature Reserve where we found our happy ever after. I remember when walking down the isle between the pine trees my dad said "My word, this is the longest isle I've ever seen". He did use a different word than "word", but I can't put it on here, and I bustred out with laughter. For those who know me, I have a very loud laugh, and all 80 guests heard me laugh on my way to meet my husband. It was at that moment that I realized that no matter how you plan your day, it's so much better that you could ever imagine. Not even my bridesmaid tripping and spilling her entire glass of red wine on the back of my dress could take that away. In fact, it actually added so much more joy.
We did a local honeymoon starting by flying up to Durban. We got a little rental car and took a road trip to Coffeebay stopping at every nice lodge we could find. We made friends with all the bar tenders and stray dogs along the way. It was the most blissful 8 days ever.
I really wanted a simple, effortless look and I could not be happier with the end result. Everyone helped me feel like a modern, 50's Vogue goddess and my husband loved every inch of it ;) Charlotte Francina Designs made my dress from a tiny picture I showed her and man-oh-man did she create something that I could not even imagine. Maryna Kirsten was my makeup artist and despite the make-up rules she gave me a bold eye and lip and I felt like a supermodel. My mother made the netting that I wore as a veil and my one bridesmaid brought my shoes all the way from Dubai as I could not find anything this side. Bless her for measuring the heel with an app so that I could go to dress fittings with the same height shoe. It was a team effort to create my dream look for my dream day and I love everyone who was involved.
Charlotte Francina McDonald, my great grandmother, was one of those iconic women: fiercely dynamic with an insatiable appetite for life. There was no challenge too great, no dream
We got married between the mountians of Matroosberg Nature Reserve just outside Ceres. All our guests stayed on the farm for the whole weekend.
