For a couple who really wanted to elope in Las Vegas, We wouldn’t have changed a thing. The most memorable moment for me was seeing my husband walk around with the biggest smile on his face- I would do it all over again just for that.
We were married by my brother, which was absolutely incredible! Surrounded by 120 of our family and friend from all over the world-just the pure love that surrounded us was amazing.
I surprised my dad by organizing a vintage Lincoln Continental to fetch us from where we got ready and take us to the venue. Having both our kids and my dad driving with me, in the most magnificent car was a dream come true.
Because we are ever so “non” traditional, I really didn’t want a white dress, but a dress that represented my personality. After scouting online I can across Jana, from Silver Swallow design- I actually, by pure chance came across her profile on Instagram and instantly knew she would get me. When I’m Joburg for business (were from Cape Town) I took two of my best friends along to her and tried on a dress... it wasn’t really me, so Jana said that she had the perfect one in mind which she said she knew would be just perfect for me...which it was! The vintage floral chiffon draped perfectly, the colours were magnificent and it worked with my tattoos, effortlessly-like it was made for me.
My shoes were an emerald green velvet, block heel with thing straps which coordinated perfectly with my dress. I found those from Daily Friday.
I’m blessed to have the most amazing hairdresser as a friend. Alisa, from Beautiful Chaos Hair Artistry in Kalk Bay worked her magic wand and did lovely loose beach curls, and 2 days before touched up my colour... it was simple, and also, just me.
My make up was done by Eve Pilartz, a well known make up artist from Germany- who I’m lucky to call family...seriously, can you get any luckier?! We kept it natural, because I wanted to look like me.
I only wore a pair of my moms large garnet earrings which paired beautifully with my dress, and my grans rose gold, very chunky arm bangle...and of course my wedding and engagement rings which also have an awesome story. We had them made with the diamond my dad gave my mom when I was born and the rose gold was from a mixture of my grans jewelry and my moms. I’ve never been keen on big stones and ornate design, so we kept it classic and slightly battered the Rose gold, with the diamond in the middle. I love that it’s sentimental and so special.
I took a jewelry making course with Ashley Heather Jewelry and actually made Darren’s ring myself. Getting his size was quite a challenge as it was a surprise, and I had to show him before the wedding- luckily, as we had to have it made bigger. But it’s gorgeous and he was so impressed!
