Best memory and highlight was walking towards the man of my dreams and seeing him tear up. Sharing our vows and me reading a promise to my step daughter. We lit a family candle after we exchanged vows signifying our family and the union of the 3 of us. Another highlight was that although it was a rainy day, all the guests were very comfortable and enjoyed the relaxed, yet elegant atmosphere.
We had our honeymoon in Ballito, KZN. Stayed in a ocean facing penthouse suite and loved every second of it.
My wedding dress was a boobtube, sweetheart neckline with long bodice. It had beads and pearls on the sweetheart line and on the side of the dress. It was an off-white dress with soft tapered netting at the bottom. My hair was done by my awesome hairdresser at Hairstreaks Richards Bay. Nails were a wedding gift from my nail technician. I did my own make-up. Jewellery was a combination of items from Louvisa and my necklace was my "Something old" as it was a gift from my grandmother (a necklace she used to own made into one for me). I wore barefoot sandals at my wedding and so did my wedding party. Lingerie was plain and simple for comfort. My wedding look was simple but elegant.
We got married at Protea Hotel by Marriot in Empangeni. Guests that came from far stayed over at the hotel and guest houses in the area. The rest stayed close enough to travel home.
I got my nails done 2 days before the wedding and that's about it. I opted not to do any spa treatments etc. as I'm an eczema sufferer and wanted to play it safe.
Our décor consisted of white table cloths and chair covers, hessian rope tied around every second chair, hessian and white lace runners with stick vases with glass vases were the center pieces filled with blue coloured water and floating candles. We had succulents next to the vases with wooden laser cut table numbers. Round tables and chairs were provided by the venue. Table numbers were made by Epic design concept and runners were hired from Function Foods. We had fairy light draping done by Louis Botes. We didn't have any fresh flowers at our wedding. Bouquets and boutonnieres were paper flowers made by Flowers Forever. We kept it warm, cozy, simple but stylish and elegant.
Groom hired a black suit and waist coat suiting my dress color from the same lady I got my dress from. Ties were purchased at Woolworths and shoes as well. Groomsmen wore their own clothing. Groomsman wore a brooch made by Epuc design concepts reading "Best man".
My maid of honor wore a sky blue dress from YDE with barefoot sandals and my stepdaughter wore a navy dress from Ackermans with barefoot sandals. They had no prescribed look as long as they were comfortable.
Pastor Bennie Grobler officiated the marraige and led the service and communion we shared as first meal as husband and wife.
A family friend and my best friend from school days took photos for us and collaborated in capturing our special day. Our wedding was unplugged so there was no photobooth etc.
Our families helped a lot assisting us plan the wedding and making items that tied our look together. We were our own wedding planner.
The groom and best man travelled together to the venue while I drove with my sister and 1 photographer.
The hotel prepared the food (which was amazingly delicious) and the wedding cake was made by Charmaine Massyn from Tjips en Tjoklits. We made the cake topper ourselves.
We designed and printed our own stationery. Invites and save the dates were electronic, designed by both of us and made by the groom.
We hired a DJ who did the music and lights for the party. We didn't have dance lessons but enjoyed the night with family and friends.
