We met each other while we were studying to become teachers at CPUT-Wellington in 2009. We started off as friends and with a lot of effort from Rinus's side, my husband now, he tried for 6 months to 'win my heart'. I only realised that Rinus truly felt more for me than a friend after he took the next step and asked me to be his girlfriend. I was incredibly happy and excited to start this new chapter of our story...
Well... a colleague and I was attending training at the Townhouse Hotel in Cape Town for the weekend of 19 August 2016.
About two weeks before the training Rinus and I discussed that if he wanted to, he could meet me at the hotel and we could have dinner in town.
Two weeks passed and with our busy schedules, we didn't speak about this again. However, Rinus didn't forget about our conversation and I received a call from him saying that he is waiting at the reception. I totally forgot and I still had to finish off an assignment for presentation the next day. I wanted to postpone our date but he said that he will wait for me.
Eventually we went for dinner. On our way back to the hotel, out of habit, I asked Rinus if he wanted to join me for a cup of coffee in my room, not knowing whether reception would allow it.
Surprisingly reception had no problem with a visitor coming to the room. Little did I know that Rinus planned with reception to have roses, champagne and chocolates placed in the room...
As I opened the door I saw the roses, champagne and chocolates and immediately started crying. When I turned around to ask him: "What does this mean?" (out of shock/joy), he was already on his knee to propose. Words cannot describe the joyful feeling that I experienced at that moment. It was AMAZING! Obviously I said YES!
