Where do I even begin? I was thrilled at all the faces of loved ones who were present to witness our nuptuils. There is quite a number of moments I hold dear, the one being when I lay on the bed 5 minutes before proceeding to the venue; I had to calm myself and soak in the reality, and in that moment I marveled and the fact that I was about to marry my best friend. The realization just warmed my heart.
Another highlight was walking down the isle and seeing the most handsome human being staring right back at me, that moment of exchange mid isle between my brother and future husband was so heart warming - two families coming together, I almost shed a tear.
Later on in the evening hearing my moms amazing speech, capturing my life so beautifully from childhood to that moment where I sat as my best friend's wife was incredible.
Our honeymoon tale is quite the funny one. We had planned a trip to Port Elizabeth, opting to drive as an added adventure as opposed to flying. What we didn't anticipate was the fatigue. Post our white wedding, the very next morning, we had to fly to Joburg for an awards ceremony. The day after that, we'd be back in Durban just in time for our traditional wedding. At the end of all the proceeding we were so exhausted that driving to PE felt like punishment. We delayed our trip for a day and spend the whole time resting.
Just as we were about to hit the road, with a full tank of petrol, the fatigued kicked in yet again and we realized, if we drive out through the night, it will be a disaster. That was when we realized we needed plan B. We then booked a lovely place in Ballito, just 10 minutes from home, no travel anxiety and the best rest we could ever ask for. Best decision ever.
Can I just say I love things that are timeless and clean. For much our our wedding theme we kept a very clean, timeless look with blush hues to support our star colour, white. From my dress to the make-up, the jewelry and shoes, I wanted to create an effortless timeless look, that would amplify natural beauty and glow.
I opted for a very classic cut and dressy feel as opposed to a mermaid dress or ball gown. I wanted the waist to be cinched but have an elongated bottom (legs) feel. I also wanted rather modest detail on the bodice of the dress, with lace and some sparkles. My dress was paired with a beautiful veil with embroidered floral detail, that fell on the non embellished part of the dress.
Prior to the wedding my then fiance has expressed his discomfort with "too much make-up", saying it becomes a bit overwhelming. Fortunately for him, I also wanted a very fresh natural glow, no-makeup make up look. I wanted him to see ME with a touch of heaven. S'modern ensured I had my best foot forward, the natural base, glowing bronze and gold finish with stunning natural look lashes. I didn't want to take them off for the longest time.
I opted for sparking champagne sandals high enough to fix my posture but low enough so I keep them on the whole ceremony.
I kept to gold/diamond jewelry, matching my dress beautifully.
The months leading up to my wedding were just traumatizing, I had the worst possible break out and the acne just didn't want to clear. I literally spend thousands on acne facial treatments, did exactly as I was told but no change. I would get reports that my skin was doing better below but my questions was, "why wasn't I seeing results then?"
I drank more water as advised, was cautious how I ate, started exercising yet the results lasted for no more than a day at best before a new breakout.
Then 7 days before my wedding, as defeated a s I was feeling whilst shopping for cosmetics, I saw this small tube thing that apparently cleared acne. The name was familiar, ad though I had heard someone reference it some many years ago. I must've been a teenager the last I heard this name. I read around the whole box, checking what chemicals are there. Nothing frightened me so I bought the tube. Every day of using the product I saw a significant improvement on my skin. In just seven days my face was smooth, without any irritation. An absolute miracle. Oh, for those wondering about the product, it was benzac.
The day before the wedding, we took our wedding party for a spa treatment. We felt everyone needed to relax and rid the nerves. A nice good message was definitely worth it. Everyone came out all smiles.
With one bridesmaid and a matron of honour I was able to pick dress designs that suited each of their silhouettes, maintaining the wedding theme whilst matching my dress. One dress was cream, the other champagne but both styled with gold accessories and shoes.
My bridesmaid and I wear our hair naturally and so it was no brainer that the styles would have to incorporate afro and dread respectively. I then decided to research a style that my sister (who's hair is relaxed) could do that would stick to the afro theme. It would take awhile before we found the perfect style, for both her and the dress. Some afro extensions were added to her hair to give it volume then styled accordingly.
