How did your love story begin?

My husband and I met through mutual friends and then became friends. For 5 years he tried to steal my heart but I was not interested at all. He spoiled me with love letters and sweet treats, even sweet messages every morning and evening but it was all in vain. We then lost touch for a few months. Until I started my studies at University. I saw a post on Facebook that he had a rough day at work and I decided to send him a message to try to pick up where we left off. Soon we started spending time together and 3 months later he asked me to be his girlfriend. On our 3 year anniversary he asked me to marry him and 2 years later we got married.

Tell us all about the proposal.

My husband is not an emotional and romantic person. He took me out for dinner at my favourite restaurant by the sea where we watched the sunset. Later that night we went for a walk on the beach and then he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. When the tears appeared I mumbled yes and I was engaged to a wonderful man. Our parents only found out after we got engaged but everyone was extremely happy for us.

Magical Moments

The biggest highlight of the wedding was seeing my unemotional husband crying when I walked down the aisle. I wanted him to cry but knowing that he is not an emotional person, I expected him to be overjoyed to see me, but he cried.
The second highlight is when my father in law wanted to object. He stopped the ceremony just to say he is happy to gain me as a daughter. After our vowels, we locked two padlocks to simbolise becoming one and were asked by the pastor to throw away the keys. I turned around, aimed at my father in law, threw the keys and hit him on his head. It was quite a shot as he was bleeding and almost fell off the chair. It was a hilarious moment for everyone!

The Honeymoon

We went to the Western Cape for our honeymoon. We went to Pletternberg Bay for 2 nights where we were treated like royals in a hotel on the beachfront. We then went to the parents in law in Yzerfontein for 3 nights to explore Cape Town and the West Coast as this was something my husband wanted to do for a very long time. We then spent 1 night at the Knysna Elephant Park where we had walks with elephants, touched and fed them and even spent the night a few meters from where they were sleeping. It was an incredible experience. We both love the sea and to have spent the honeymoon by the sea was amazing!

My Special Day

The wedding had a relaxed atmosphere. It was not too formal as my husband is a very informal person and I wanted him to feel comfortable but also look good. I love curls and therefore decided to curl my hair and pin it up on one side and rest on my shoulder on the other side to accommodate the boobtube dress. My make up was natural with a bit of a dark eye and pop of colour on my lips. The make up was just perfect as can be seen on the wedding photos. The dress was actually the first one I tried on and after a few other fittings, I came back for that dress. It suited my body perfectly as if it was made for me. I felt so special in it and loved the detail on the corsette. I just asked the designer to add some more bling to it and it came out perfectly. I did not want to spend the whole day in heels and have sore feet at the reception so I opted for wedges instead. I found a light brown wedge that fitted right in with the theme and colour and it was the most comfortable wedges I have ever worn. The best wedding shoes! Since I married a hunter and outdoor lover, I found camo lingerie that he absolutely loved! My earrings were the something old; my necklace the something new; the perfume something borrowed and the garter the something blue.

The Venue

We got married in Uitenhage, Port Elizabeth at a garden setting venue. It was an intimate wedding. We got married in a garden and had the reception in the hall next to the garden. Everything was beautifully draped and decorated with white, brown and purple everywhere. Some guests slept over at the BnB onsite whereas other did not as most guests lived nearby.

My Bridal Beauty Regime

I did not really have a beauty program as I did not want to be stressed. I did visit the gym quite often and made time to relax. There was no time for treatments as my career does not allow it and the week before the wedding there were still some things to organise so I made time to relax, go to gym, watch what I eat and tried to look after my skin so I could look beautiful on my big day.

Wedding Elements

My colours were white, burlap (brown) and purple so the table were decorated with windmills, white and purple flower boxes, small succulents and burlap table runners. The backdrop for the main table was white and purple draping with protea flower boxes and big windmills. There were old suitcases used for decoration and for the wedding gifts. There was a photo booth where guests could enjoy themselves and they definitely enjoyed themselves with plenty of funny pictures. We also had a DJ to ensure that there is a party feel and the music just made the reception even better. Everyone enjoyed the music and everyone took a turn on the dance floor.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The groom was wearing a rented light brown suit with a handmade shoulder bouquet and the groomsmen were responsible for their own clothes. Since it was an informal wedding, they wore brown chino pants with a white shirt and the shoulder bouquets. There were also personalised socks for the groom, best man, groomsman and fathers of the bride and groom.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

My bridesmaids wore light brown infinity dresses that I chose to compliment the theme of the wedding. The infinity dress was the perfect choice since it complimented the bridesmaids' figures so well and they looked stunning!

The Original Infinity Dress can be worn 27 different ways, making it the perfect bridesmaid dress for all figures!

Marriage Officer

We were married by Pastor Morne Spies. He was an excellent choice as he is still young and brought some humour into the ceremony. The guests still speak about the service and how beautiful it was.

The Wedding Planner

Since I got married at a venue that provided more than just the venue, I had someone to help me with other arrangements like food and decor and flowers. The rest was all done by me with a little help from my mother.

Wedding Transport

I did not have special transport since the ceremony and the reception was on the same premises.

Food & Cake

The venue also provided the catering and a very special family friend made the best orange cake ever!

Wedding Stationery

All the stationery was handmade by myself.

The Reception and Entertainment

We love dancing and decided that we are not that formal to take dance lessons but rather just enjoy ourselves. We had a DJ that played music for everyone. from the young ones to the older guests. The sound and lighting was also supplied by the DJ so there were no extra charge.
