Ecclesiastes 4:11-12 Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.
Our love story began ten years ago. The first time we saw each other in the school passage was love at first sight (which we didn't believe in). Ten years later we were promising our eternal love. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. It was a rainy day. Probably the coldest day of 2017 but our love kept us warm. We got married at the beautiful lace on timber. The rain did not stop us from getting married in their beautiful open chapel. It was freezing, I won’t lie, but it was worth every goose bump. I married my best friend, and what more can a girl ask for? God seriously blessed me with the best husband!

We were fortunate enough to enjoy our honeymoon at the lovely "Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa" in the Maldives. The beautiful still waters and scenery was soothing. We stayed in an over-water bungalow which was private and snug - perfect for honeymooners. What a great relaxing and very hot experience! Delicious food and great service. Will recommend to anyone.
I wanted a two in one wedding dress. A more formal princess but fun look for the ceremony and a more simplistic yet elegant easy to dance with dress for the reception. I searched for the perfect dress and started feeling like those girls trying on hundreds of dresses and still not getting the one. So I decided to have my dress made by the very talented Werner Dey. He was such a blessing. He created a masterpiece, everything I wanted and more. He designed my dress so that I can take off the big skirt part after the ceremony. I felt spectacular! My shoes were a bit of an issue. I wanted nude shoes but couldn't find any in my size that fitted well. Eventually I got my shoes at Edgars. I made my gown and the bridesmaids gowns, it was part of their gift when I asked them to stand by my side. The bridal party and my make-up were done by the incredible Alecia from Ubella and hair by a friend Taryn van Rooyen. I didn't have any other jewellery or accessories except little round stud earrings and a small clip in my hair. And my gorgeous wedding ring of course!
We got married at the stunning Lace on Timber in Rietfontein, PTA. At the time this was a new venue. I saw the post on Facebook about the opening and the one and only picture of the entrance they shared just stole our hearts. We knew that this it was what we were looking for. Mostly family and the bridal party filled the rooms at the venue.
I didn't follow a certain program. I just ate healthy and went to the gym often to lose a few extra kilo's. I'm not all about 'changing everything so that nobody notices you on your wedding day' - you always have to look after yourself, not just on your wedding day.
We wanted a very simplistic look. We used a color pallet of burgandy, sage, burnt orange, cream, blush, navy and splashes of mustard. Our flowers were done by Pebble and Lace. The flowers formed a very informal flower runner on the table with gold candlesticks sticking out. We also bought hexagon shaped carton containers and sprayed them with gold spray. We used them as 'candle stands'. We made our table numbers and table placing board ourselves with nails and string. The gifts were something that we loved - Jaco made a chilli sauce for the men and I made salted caramel fudge for the ladies. We also had complimentary craft beer and wine. We had lawn games for the guests to play but unfortunately the weather did not play along, but the canapés kept them more than happy. Our confetti was some of the sage leaves and rose petals which we placed in a cone shaped holder made out of Bible pages.
My lovely groom wore a custom suite by Tailor Me. I think getting the men dressed was the part that took the longest. Not getting the right sizes or color was very frustrating and time consuming. But eventually we just had it made and we were over the moon with the results. Hubby looked like a million dollars! The groomsmen got their attire from Woolworths and some other retail stores. They too looked very handsome.
My bridesmaids had their dresses made by a local dressmaker. I had an idea of what the dress should look like, and couldn't find anything similar. I wanted them to have a two in one look. A long dress for the ceremony, and a shorter dress to party with. And of course something that they will be able to wear again. So we shopped for the right material and had it made. It was comfortable and looked beautiful!
We were very fortunate to have my father in law married us. He gave us a heartfelt message that we will carry with us forever.
Our day was captured by Him & Her Pictures. They did an amazing job capturing all our special moments with the roller-coaster weather we had. We also had a video made by Fascination Pictures. The results were beyond our expectations. You can view our amazing love story on Vimeo. (https://player.vimeo.com/video/247231788)
We did not have a planner. We chose to do it ourselves because it's OUR special day and your only going to get this opportunity once in your life!
We were so excited about our VW Beetle!!!! When we started dating hubby drove a beetle so this was very dear to our hearts. We knew from the get go that we wanted a beetle. Even though it was only for photo purposes. Luckily one of my students had a beetle - and it was just the color we were looking for. The green bug just made our day extra special!
Our food was DELICIOUS! Everyone says that you don't eat at your own wedding...well..we certainly did not miss out on this! Because we chose a very simple cake and I love baking, I chose to bake the cake myself. Vanilla for hubby and a njummy salted caramel filling for me.
I designed the stationery myself. It was a bit time consuming because I didn't have the right programs for the job. But after a few flops, we got what we wanted and had it printed at a local printing company and saved all the way.
Our DJ was the incredible DJ Gerrie from Up A Tone. He kept the dance floor "pumping" and the guests on their feet the whole night. We opened the dance floor with a medley of songs that formed part of our journey together - that had a special meaning to us. Me and my dad did our dance on the song he and my mom opened the dance floor with 31 years ago - Around My Dream by Silver Pozzoli.
