I met Corné when he interviewed me for a job, I thought that he was incredibly handsome.
I got the job and we became very good work colleagues. When a friend could not join me for the South Africa vs England rugby game in 2012 (I already bought the tickets) I asked Corné if he would like to join me, he did.
We spent the weekend together and there was a spark that neither of us could deny. Because we worked together we were very scared to start a relationship, what if it did not work out?
In the end we took a chance and today we are happily married :)
We went away for the weekend and stayed in Wilderness. The day of the proposal we drove to Victoria Bay and walked around for a bit till we discovered this cute little coffee shop right next to the beach and decided to enjoy a cappuccino before we drove back to our Guest House.
He went down on one knee midway through our cappuccino's and popped the question, I was so shocked I responded by asking him if he asked my parents permission first. He nodded yes and I smiled feeling a little embarrassed...to which I responded YES
The highlight and most memorable moment of our special day was walking down the aisle and seeing his face.
Other memorable moments were having all the special people in our life there, celebrating our incredible day with us. Dancing the night away and just having a great time.
We only went on honeymoon about two weeks after our wedding. We stayed at The Ambre Resport and Spa in Mauritius for 7 days...lounging around on the beach, enjoying cocktails and eating way too much.
I wanted a very simple look nothing over the top. My make up was done by the very talented Iris Gomez. Hair was done at Nouvo Hair Salon by Casey, we did a trail but ended up going for a completely different look the day of the wedding :) I struggled to find a dress that I loved, but visited Loca Bridal and the first dress I fitted, I completely fell in love with. The dress had a blush undertone and a deep v-cut in the front. I wore blush heels and had beautiful long diamante earrings on.
We got married at Running Waters in Port Elizabeth - I fell in love with the venue when I attended the bridal expo they hosted. The staff are amazingly helpful and friendly and I never had to worry about a single thing. Most guests were from the area so not a lot needed accommodation.
I tried to eat healthy and followed a fitness plan for a couple of months before the wedding, but about 3 weeks before the wedding things got a bit crazy and I ended up just-just fitting in my wedding dress, it definitely made me and the bridesmaids laugh (maybe a little bit of panicking) but mostly laughs.
My wedding colours were sage green and grey. My flowers were long green arrangements running from one end to the other end of the table with white roses and baby's breath. My florist (Petals Florist, Port Elizabeth) was amazing and went above and beyond to help create my desired look. We had a large candy buffet table, which was raided by guests in minutes :) Running Waters Venue is just incredibly beautiful so we did not need to do much to make the venue look amazing.
The groom and groomsmen all wore white and grey. We shopped around for a while trying to get their outfits together as we struggled to get the correct sizes. The groom wore a grey suit with white shirt , no tie. And the groomsmen wore grey chinos, long white shirts, grey ties and grey suspenders. Their buttonholes were small rock roses
My bridesmaids wore a white strap top with a long sage green skirt. I got the look on Pinterest. I loved the natural, plain look it had. Instead of flower bouquets they wore flower halo's. They looked beautiful.
We had a wonderful marriage officer: Paul Vice. Everyone enjoyed the way he conducted our ceremony. It was incredibly beautiful and also made everyone laugh.
Our photographer was Jenna Finkelstein. We also made use of Amuse Photobooth, the photo booth was a big hit
Running Waters organised our buffett style dinner at the reception.
Our wedding cake was done by Ganache Patisserie & Chocolatier (situated at Baywest Mall, Port Elizabeth) they made amazing chocolate cups filled with chocolate mousse, topped with different praline's. We also had a 3 tier cake done by them with a chocolate ganche filling.
I had help from a very talented work colleague, Kirsten Pretorius, in designing all our wedding stationary.
We own the Postnet at Moffett on Main so printing our stationary was a hassle free job , making life a lot easier.
Vandelier Productions did our lighting and sound at the wedding and their DJ played at our reception. Once he started playing the oldies both young and old joined on the dance floor having a great time. Once the older guests left, the youngsters really started partying.
We did not take any dance lessons before the wedding and made up our moves then and there when they played our first dance song.
