My husband and I met each other during December 2009 via a mutual friend. We hardly noticed each other at that stage, even though we ended up in the same group more than once. We were at different stages of our lives and had our own paths to walk and "growing up" to do before we were ready for each other. It was not until June 2013 that we "noticed" each other for the first time. Our paths finally led us to one another and we were ready to take on the world as one. My husband proposed on 24 May 2016 in the most beautiful town called Ronda in Spain. He proposed with a ring he made out of a piece of wire and stone, collected during our walk that morning. (The idea with the wire ring was to enable me to choose my own ring) He even organised a guitarist to play while we were having our private dinner overlooking the town.
The following stood out for us:
- Seeing my husband's face in the church when he saw me for the first time
- Seeing my engagement ring for the first time (We struggled to find what we were looking for and ended up having it made 2 weeks before the wedding)
- Enjoying the day with all our friends and family
- Having a great time with Lizaan & Louw Nel taking pictures of us on my parent's farm.
- Enjoying an acoustic session with the rock band and guests until 3 am in the bar area of the venue
Yes. We went to Zanzibar for 8 wonderful days.
We had a combination of the traditional and "beach" look. I therefore chose to wear a ball gown with a pair of comfortable sandals. My jewellery were all gifts from my mom over the last year or two. I decided to keep it simple by not wearing a necklace. The pearl necklace was worn as a bracelet. My dress, vail and garter were purchased from Bride & Co. Make-up was done by Mana-Makeup. My hair was done by the best hairdresser ever! Chantel Brits.

We got married in the Franschhoek NG Church. Our canapés were served at Paradise Cottages & stables where we also had our photos taken. The reception was held at Hollandsche Molen. Hollandsche Molen offered self catering accommodation as well as camping facilities.
I went on a low carb diet to loose a bit of weight (everything I gained after meeting my husband..) I was lucky to get about 3 complimentary Environ facials from Franschhoek Health & Skin care during the 6 months leading to my wedding.
We wanted an elegant, simple but stylish look. We therefore decided to go with Perspex chairs, glass candelabras, white orchids and a single rose and/or lily per table.
My husband hates wearing a suit and shoes. He wore sandals with a comfortable pair of trousers and shirt that he already had in is cupboard. It was impossible to get my husband to a shop (he absolutely hates any form of shopping) so we had to make do with what he had.
We decided not to have groomsmen.
I did not have any bridesmaids. One of my very best friends advised me against having bridesmaids. It saved a lot of energy and time not to worry about a look for bridesmaids.

We made use of Lizaan Nel Photography. She is excellent in what she does. My husband, who hates smiling for a photo, knows them well which made it easier to get a proper smile out of him. Lizaan, and her husband Louw (the light man), made us feel very at ease. They didn't give us a chance to get the wedding jitters.
No. I co-ordinated as far as I could and delegated the rest to friends and family. It helped a lot to have friends and family that are in the industry of organising events.
We had the theme of "in with the old and out with the new". I went to church in a 1975 Mercedes Benz and arrived at the canapés and reception with a Porche Boxter.
The canapés were prepared and served by Extreem Kwizeen. The food and wedding cake at the reception were prepared by the venue themselves. (Hollandsche Molen)
I did it myself. Printing of menus were done at the local Kodak shop on paper purchased from Paper Paradise.
We made use of a live band that DJ'd until 22:00. Half of our guests were "langarm" people and the rest were into rock music. We therefore played "langarm" until about 22:00 and had the rock band perform after that. I taught my husband a few "langarm" steps about two weeks before the wedding. I was able to teach him just enough to survive the opening dance...
