Charl and I met on Facebook. He recently moved to Cape Town and was lonely in the big new city. He approached a page on Facebook and made a post, asking to meet new people. I reacted and we started talking. we met soon after and could not be apart since!
Charl knew that I had very strong opinions about the perfect proposal. The most important was that I wanted to be caught off guard and I wanted it to be just the two of us.
He planned the engagement with my mom. It all happened on our 4 month anniversary
He decided to kidnap me for the day and started off by redoing our first date. Afterwards he took me on a roadtrip to Riebeeck Kasteel and when we entered the town, he told me we would be spending the night there.
We had drinks in the beautiful garden and when I wnated to get ready for dinner, I saw the most beautiful dress, shoes and a note on our bed. He told me to get ready because he would be taking me out for dinner.
He took me to a 5 star restaurant. I was kind of upset when it was time for dessert and he didn't want any but we went back to our hotel where he made up a story sending me to the room while he stayed behind.
Then there was a knock on the door and a lady telling me to come to the bar for a drink. But he wasn't there. Only a glass of champagne, a rose and a letter with instructions on where to go next. At my next destination in the garden, under a gazebo with candles standing sround, I found another letter with a chocolate telling me where to go.
I had to follow the candles all the way to him. There I found him, with a third letter, under a tree filled with fairylights.
He went down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
In between all the tears I managed to say yes and we spent the evening all alone. Just the two of us in our engagement bubble before sharing the news with everybody the next day.
Our wedding day was absolutely magical! It was everything we had dreamed and hoped for!
We did a lot of things ourselves and seeing it all come together was great.
(A few) of the higlights were:
1. Getting married!
2. Seeing our heart confetti falling on us. We punched each little heart by hand!
3. The special Aisle runner that my aunt painted for us.
4. My grandmother’s blue couch that we transported to the venue for photos
5. The recording I made for Charl that played in the church right before I walked doen the aisle. It made him so emotional but it was definitely a highlight!
6. Having an absolute blast with our friends and family and celebrating our special day
Yes, we went to Phuket Thailand for 10 days! It was our first experience traveling together and we loved it!
I wanted a very natural look on my wedding day. As I don’t wear a lot of make up I didn’t want to look ‘over done’
Make up, lashes and hair: The talented Clarita Smit did my hair and make up. She was absolutely amazing to work with and kept me calm the whole day.
Dress: Ilse Roux designed and made my dress from scratch, exactly as I wanted it. My request was that i wanted to look as if I was floating on a cloud and I think she gave me exactly that! My dress is also very special as it has a sown in heart cut out from one of my grandfather’s shirts.. my dress was SO comfortable and I felt like I never wanted to take it off! PLUS it had POCKETS!! The best accessory to my wedding dress for sure!

We got married in the NG kerk in Riebeeck Kasteel and had our reception at Groenrivier Function Centre.
They were Absolutely amazing and made our wedding SO easy! It was a stress-free experience knowing that they were in charge. They did everything they could to make sure that it was perfect and the food was AMAZING!
A wonderful country venue set in the heart of one of Cape's most beautiful valleys.
Kadou Floral design was in charge of our decor and flowers. She was absolutely wonderful to work with.
We decided on a Marsala, Navy and Gold colour scheme.
I wanted lots of flowers and greenery, candles and fairy lights and that’s exactly what I got!
The table flower runners were beautiful and each one was a little different. The fairy lights hanging from the ceiling gave the decor a magical touch. The candles ensured for a more romantic feel.
And our ‘Bester’ light sign (made by the talented Anneke Gerber from Anna Nonsens) hanging from the ceiling completed the picture perfectly.
Our service providers were a dream to work with!
The groom (My husband!!) wore a black suit, white shirt and Marsala tie.
We decided to hire the suits from Smart Men Suit Hire. The shirts were from Markhams and we had his tie made because we could not find the perfect colour in store. His shoes were from Aldo.
The groomsmen wore navy suits, white shirts and navy ties with brown shoes. Their suites were also hired from Smart Men suit hire, shirts from Markhams and ties from Woolworths. They had to purchase their own shoes.
I wanted my bridemaids to be comfortable and to look beautiful on our wedding day.
We saw the perfect dresses at YDE but not in the right colour. I contacted Kameo Clothing (she sells through YDE) and she made the dresses for my bridesmaids in the right colour, sent it to the YDE store nearest to me and I just picked it up there.
Karla was a dream to work with and my girls looked beautiful in ther navy dresses!

Photobooth: We used Gecko Capture Selfie booth and photography. They set up without us even knowing they were there! The photobooth was an absolute hit with our guests!

I planned everything myself with the help from my mom, aunt and friends.
My dad is a collector of classic Mercedes Benz cars. Since I was a little 8 year old girl, I picked one of them named ‘Doortjie’ as my wedding car. My dad drove her all the way to Riebeeck Kasteel for our special day!
Malita Jouber Catering catered for our wedding day. She works with Groenrivier Fuction Centre. The food was delicious and our guests enjoyed everything they served. There were so many Cannapés, our guest could not finish it! The food was familiar and delicious. We made sure we had some and ate on our wedding day!
Our special and unique wedding cake was baked and designed by Style me Sweet. Lesley was amazing! We decided on a chalk board look for our cake and completed it with a Willow Tree Cake Topper. Our guests raved about how delicious it was!
Our wedding invitations were designed and printed by The Pink Collection.
All other stationary and extras were designed and made by yours truly :)
Our DJ was actually my cousin and well known in our wedding circle. DJ Wico. He did a great job at reading the crowds and playing what we wanted to hear.
We opened the dance floor on Jo Black’s “Die vrou wat ek liefhet”. Since we love dancing, We didn’t go for any lessons and just practiced a few times in our garage before the big day.
