Luke whisked me away to Seychelles for 10 days. It was a complete surprise and I only found out when we got to the airport. We had the most magical time on tropical beaches and exploring the mountains and all the island had to offer.
Classic, delicate and elegant. My dress was created and designed by Robyn Roberts. Delicate and fine white lace bodice that gently flowed into a tulle skirt with a medium length train, V-neck with thin straps, open back with satin buttons that flowed right down my back. My hair and make-up had a natural feel to it. My hair was done up with a waterfall braid that flowed into a wispy bun. I wore burgundy orchids in my hair. I wore burgundy pointed heels to bring out my colour scheme. I loved the little splash of colour that sneakily peeked out every now and then!
The venue was one of the most improtant aspects for me. I always knew I wanted something natural with beautiful surroundings and not a dressed-up venue. I loved the idea of an out-door wedding so when we had a look at Die Woud, my heart was set on it. Natural beauty, lots of shady trees, organic colours, outdoors and beautiful fairy-tale views in every direction. Die Woud is situated in Caledon. My family is from Hermanus, which is a near-by town but majority of our guests were travelling from Cape Town. Most of them booked into small self-catering accommodation cottages in Caledon or in the neighbouring towns. Die Woud also offers two beautiful farm-style houses to rent which was occupied by Luke's family, who traveled from Johannesburg.
Die Woud is in perfect harmony with nature nestled between established oak trees and majestically tall wattle forests.
I honesty didn't do much! I've always been a big fan of health and fitness long before a wedding was on the horizon. I stay away from rich foods and stick to healthy, organic meals. I tried to hydrate by drinking 2 liters of water a day in the week of the wedding. Two or three tanning sessions in the sun and a week to just relax, breath and absorb before the wedding.
Die Woud offers such a naturally beautiful environment, I didn't want any decor. I went for minimalistic with some flower arrangements and fairy lights. My grandmother, aunt and close family friend created all the flower arrangements. We used only natural and organic fynbos that we picked ourselves from a friends farm. We had to order about 100 proteas, as I was set on this being my centre flower. Natural, beautiful, organic and South African.
There were flower arrangements on each table along with two tall candle sticks with white candles. We got married under an arch which was also decorated with fynbos arrangements.
There are huge, stunning chandeliers hanging in the glass house hall already. So I didn't want much more. In stead of hiring extra lighting, I bought a few fairy light sets from china town to wrap around some tree trunks in the forrest as well as hang a curtain of lights behind the main table.
Our dance floor was next to the glass house hall under a bedouin tent. This led out to the forrest under the stars.
The groom (Luke) wore a navy blue suit from Studio W and a plain white shirt underneath. He matched this with a burgundy tie. The groomsmen wore the same Studio W pants, white shirts, burgundy bow ties from BroTie and brown leather suspenders.
Burgundy knee length chiffon dresses that pulled in at the waist with a brown leather belt. I found these dresses at YDE but needed a few alterations. I managed to find the designer, Kim Govars, who was amazing and helped me out so willingly!
Our minister Nils Holmgren led the marriage service. It was a beautiful service, focused on Christ and all I guests had the opportunity to listen to the gospel.
Love Made Visible documented our day so beautifully and naturally through photographs. KikiMotion captured our day on video. The team was incredible at being invisible on the day and yet still captured the most amazing shots!
Nope! I was the wedding planner and I got a lot of help from my amazing mom and incredible bridesmaids! I was extra special to have coordinated and planned the day from beginning to end! Although on the day, our MC helped as well as a floor-coordinator from the venue to keep the flow of events running smoothly. We could relax and enjoy the day without worry!
Rented a C-class Mercedes car from Hertz, decorated with white ribbon.
DIY! My talented sister-in-law designed a floral pattern to be used on all our stationery. She hand-painted the design in water colours. The floral pattern consisted of our fynbos and protea flower arrangements. Once she had created a digital version, I took it to the printers myself. It made it extra special and personal having my new sister be so involved and helpful!
