The most memorable was when I saw my husband reading his letter I wrote to him and of course when we exchanged our vows. The highlight was our family and friends driving so far to share our special day (It was more then a 7 hour drive).
Oh this was a funny one. We did go on honeymoon but we only decided where to go the night after the wedding! My husband could not decide where to go and time ran out so we said we will go with the flow. We went to Coffee Bay where it was just the two of us and raw nature, the beach and like I said just the two of us.
I always dreamed to do something different with my wedding dress so when the time came I decided on my favorite color, Navy/midnight blue, we also mixed in some blush and mocha to soften it a bit. The only person I could think of to make my dress idea come true and add even more to it was Werner Dey located in Parys. He likes thinking out of the box and that is what I needed seeing I wanted to incorporate cigarette styled pants with a modern vintage twist dress (the dress was more then what I imagined it to be).
The look needed a pointy shoe and I had comfort in mind so I combined comfort and couture. I bought a Froggie pair and Werner covered it with some lace that was also used in my dress. My vale and hair had to suit the look so I decided on a half face net vale (also Wernerd Dey made). I wanted my hair to hang loose so that whatever happens through the day it will still look planned, but Monique from Rockmantic Hair had my back covered and made sure it looked great and felt natural at most, Monique and I met when I was still in high school and since the first appointment I always said one day she will have to do my wedding hair (Another dream come true)
I kept the accessories to a minimum because of all the detail on my dress so I only had my earrings on that was a gift from my mother earlier that year.
My makeup was done by Tarrin Champkins a local star in Underberg, we did not meet each other until the day before the wedding so I was nervous by far but she stepped up and did an AMAZING job, I wanted to go for a natural/soft look but the dress and my hair needed that little bit more, she just knew what to do and I went with it.
I had an amazing team by my side!!
We got married in Underberg, Drakensberg at Penwarn Country Lodge. We also got engaged there in December 2016. I basically started crying while we were there the first time in 2016 because of the natural beauty all around and I even mentioned if we get married one day we should keep Penwarn in mind (not knowing my husband has been walking around with the ring since that October waiting for the perfect moment) and that is how my husband decided this will be the perfect place to propose( in one of their canoes in the middle of their pond just before we would book out) and that is how we decided where we want to tie the knot, it was extra special. All of our guests had to stay over so most of them made it a small holiday. We wanted to share the scenic views and the calmness that came with it. Most of the guests stayed at the lodge.
I went to the gym 4 times a week.
I used Dermalogica facial products for my skin preparations.
The main focus was nature, because of the location we chose. We wanted it to have a warm and cozy feel. Main flowers were penny gum and protea. Penwarn did my flowers and all of the penny gum was hand picked from their farm. We wanted loose flower runners on the table and I added vintage decor provided by my mother that owns Vintage Nook and More. We had old Vinyl /LP's as under plates on rustic wooden tables and we used Tiffany chairs.
The reception was in the lapa styled hall, open on two sides so you can have a view of the farm, we covered one side with hessian to prevent the cold wind. I used warm white bulb string lights to cover the top and fairy lights twisted with the penny gum around the standing pillars. For the main table Penwarn made a hanging flower frame and we added Hanging Edison lights. Added to that a lot of candles to give that extra romantic feel.
Brian - the groom had a midnight blue suite made for him by Snyman Tailoring in PTA with a white shirt (Edgars), ox blood leather tie and tan color shoes and belt.
Groomsmen - Sand color straight leg pants with a white shirts and ox blood leather tie.
Ties: WEEF
Groomsmen wear: Woolworth and Edgars
Shoes: Duesouth
Because I had a dark dress I asked my ladies to wear white and blush. They could choose if they wanted both colors or choose one of them. The style was up to them. We did give each other ideas but in the end it was all about what you could use again and what will make you feel comfortable. Both had their dresses made accordingly, one had a white lace top with a blush tule skirt and the other one had a dirty pink lace dress made.
Ds. Waldemar Stumpfe, he used to be my youth Parson (Dominee) back in the day and he made such an impact in my life, again this was a dream come true because I always imagined him being our marriage officer. I had to look him up and trace him down because he moved out of our town in 2002. I was so excited when he confirmed!!!!
Ginger Ale Photography!!!!!! There is no words to describe their work. I followed them for a year or so prior to the engagement because their photos and underwater shoots are beyond captured art. They capture those natural expressions perfectly and that was exactly what we were looking for. They are wonderful people and makes you feel so relaxed and they make it fun. We had such great feedback from our guests as well about them and how they enjoyed Ilse and Sean around them. So much positive energy!!!
Penwarn Lodge had a wonderful couple helping us, Kirsten and Conrad. They made sure everything ran smoothly and did their utmost best to keep our interest their primary focus.
It was our Jeep!!!! We were on a farm after all....
We had a spit and it was done by Penwarn! AMAZING!!!!
Wedding cake was done by Jurie from Grapevine Cafe. It was a coconut and poppy seed cake with cream cheese and A LOT of fruit.
This is one to tell our children one day.!! We went for dancing lessons and when it got to the day and time both of us forgot what to do so we just winged it!! It was very funny to us! We had Warren Pelser as our epic DJ, again a plan long in the making. Our parents were friends so we kind off grew up together. Warren's passion is doing what he does, being a DJ. Everybody enjoyed his music and he caters for all ages and tastes. He reads the crowd perfectly and his choice of music was on point!!!
