Can you imagine the worst possible thing to ever happen to a bride??...
It all started shortly after the clock struck midnight. Our wedding day had finally arrived and there was no chance of me falling asleep anytime soon with all the excitement mounting and great expectations eagerly waiting to unfold.
I decided to start prepping the room for the 'Getting Ready' chapter of the big day. I had the privilege of being booked into The Radisson for the night before, as well as for getting ready with my girls & pre-ceremony photographs. The need to hang both my dress and my moms dress were of great importance to me so as to avoid creasing. The cupboard space was far too shallow, I needed to find height! I looked up and spotted the sprinkler rose which had an attachment perfect for hooking on two hangers. I figured that the sprinkler system would only activate with smoke, right? I don't smoke & what were the chances of a fire?... WRONG! It wasn't even two minutes later and all of a sudden I heard a SHHHHHHHH sound! The sprinkler system had activated from the weight of the dresses and started profusely spraying out BLACK water!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (The water had probably been sitting in the pipes for years)
The dresses were being soaked black as I stood there in utter disbelief!!
To cut a long story short, with the help of my dressmaker, my mom and I managed to find a willing wedding dress cleaning service who were able to clean both dresses spotlessly and have them dried and ready two and a half hours before the start of the ceremony! A big thank you to Janet Honeyball and her team from fresh THE LAUNDRY for turning my wedding morning blues (or should I say black!) into the most unforgettably beautiful day of my life!
We honeymooned in Mauritius at the Radisson Blu in Poste Lafayette.
My dress, veil and garter were designed and created by Milla Zagluvek. We went with an A-line, open-back, French-romance feel. The delicate flower lace was imported and the rest of the material was sourced locally.
My hair was softly curled and styled up to show off the open back dress. Leon at Teazers Hair & Beauty has a unique talent and passion for bridal styling and helped to calm my anxious mind.
The lovely Iris Gomez from Love The Girl made us all look absolutely stunning! We were after an enhanced natural look and she delivered beautifully!
I chose the stunning Malaika by Imaani for my wedding shoe. They were glitzy and comfy and complemented the look of my dress. I will certainly be making good use of them for future formal events!
Our gorgeous getting-ready gowns from Vows Wedding Adornments were a great choice for getting into the wedding day spirit. I wore the Blanched Almond floral robe.
Kathleen Barry Bespoke Occassion Accessories was my jewelry of choice. I was so pleased to find uniquely stylish, good quality rose gold jewelry to compliment our Rose Gold theme. I chose the Ginny bracelet & cluster earrings as well as the Nadine hair pin. The cherry on top!
The ceremony and reception was held at La Colline in Port Elizabeth.
We chose Reverend Warren Watermeyer. What a gem!
Brad Peens Wedding Photography & Videography captured the special details & magical moments of our big day. Having a beautiful wedding day is a privelage, having memories to cherish is priceless!
The in-house Chef at La Colline prepared the most delicious food! Loved by all!
Our favourite dessert is creme brulee and we wanted to bring that flavour into our wedding cake. Yolande from Hummingbird Catering and Confectionery baked a superb 4-tier creme brulee cake. It was so unbelievably delicious and the service from conception to completion was exceptional.
