I woke up the morning of my wedding day so excited. I wanted to get into my wedding dress at 06:00 in the morning and just wait for him at the venue. Getting into my wedding dress with the help of my bridesmaids was more than a dream coming true. Everything was on point, every hair had its place, the buttons on my dress was aligned and my shoes was on. We drove to the venue and total peace came over me. I realized that there is not a piece of doubt in my heart that I’m marrying the right person. It’s a feeling you can only describe once you feel it!
My father took my hand and we walked towards Michael on a Matthew Mole song. All I remember was looking at him and feeling grateful that I get to marry my best friend. We started the ceremony by having a worship session with our friends playing the instruments. You could feel God’s presence hovering in that place. What made this day memorable is that you get to share intimate moments with your closest family and friends. Literally all your favorite people is in one place.. I danced with my dress as if I was wearing a cocktail dress. I laughed so much. I ate cake and danced more with my husband.
Our wedding day was perfect... but we try to keep our marriage more beautiful than our wedding day.
We met each other, got engaged and married in a little more than a year. So the time to save for a big honeymoon was little. We went through the garden route and stayed in Knysna waterfront. We went exploring and did things the tourists usually do. You feel so special on your honeymoon, as if everyone is suppose to know and congratulate you on getting married. We didn’t stay together before we got married so the honeymoon was fun and interesting to say the least.
Well, I didn’t want people to wonder who the bride was. After all, I’m only getting married once. I went with a big ball gown with lace on my arms and a long lace train which I ordered from Ally express online. I received my dress literally 5 days before my wedding from the courier after there was problems at Jhb customs. I wanted to look timeless and romantic. My hair was curled and tied up in an up style with a diamond hairpiece at the back. I had another hairstyle in mind and changed my whole idea the morning when my friend, Lallie came to do my hair. She did an incredible job on short notice and she was very patient.
My make up was done also by a friend Esther (I am very blessed with amazing friends). My make up was natural but highlighted my eyes. I still wanted Michael to recognize me when I walk to him. I only had lash extensions put on previously in the week which made my eyes stand out.
Because of my dress that was so big I only had earrings as accessories on and my shoes were very comfortable jelly lace shoes. No one saw my shoes anyways because of my dress and I danced the whole night with no tears of pain or difficulty walking.

We got married at Leeuklooflapa, near Brandwag on the way to Oudshoorn. It’s in a bush. Trees covering the sky and a small river coming from the mountains ensuring a peaceful atmosphere. Fairy lights and candles was put everywhere to create a romantic feeling.
Guests didn’t sleep over but it was not far from Mosselbay where people could book accommodation.
I tried to eat healthy but I was one of those brides that ate when I got stressed instead of not eating. I work long hours as a nurse so I drank a lot of water and made sure I wash my face every night and applied a moisturizer. I went to a spa the week of my wedding to get lash extensions, a wax and eyebrow tinting. I did a home teeth whitening kit, if it worked I honestly don’t know. I didn’t exercise more, I counted on being on my feet the whole day if I work as exercise... which probably isn’t the best type of exercise.
My flowers was lots of proteas, red roses and penningum. My bouquet was very forest inspired, with marsala, green and light pink flowers. We didn’t rent furniture, tents or a stage. Our venue provided everything. We only bought extra fairy lights and candles for a romantic feeling.
The groomsmen wore navy pants with a navy waistcoat and white shirt. The groom wore exactly the same but just with a navy jacket. The groomsmen made their suits in George and the groom bought his suit at Truworths.
My bridesmaids all wore different dresses they chose just in the same color, which was marsala. I wanted them to wear the dresses again after the wedding so they chose a dress that looks good on their bodies.

Mandie Verwey was our photographer (Hart en siel fotografie) and Katinka productions took our video. We had a photo booth inside with props which guests could use to take their own photos.
I didn’t have a wedding planner to do all the planning. But I have an amazing mother who arranged everything. I didn’t deal with stressful situations at all, she took cared of everything. I a forever thankful for her. She is my hero. The day before and the day of the wedding everyone helped, from my friends to my in laws... all made sure i get to enjoy my childhood dream wedding.
I had 2 Jeep Wranglers. One for me and one for the bridesmaids. It was matte black and perfect for the venue’s gravel roads.
The venue made a spitbraai with two pots of vegetables and three salads to go with it. There is was also a bread table with assorted breads and cheeses, olives, biltong, spreads ect.
My wedding cake was done by the same friend who did my makeup. It was a three layered naked cake. Each layer was different. The guests enjoyed it do much snd still talked about the cake days after the wedding.
Alicia from Blitsdruk designed and printed all our invites, menus, programs and wedding placements. Also small detail stationary.
We had a live band in the beginning of the ceremony for worship. (Our friends from church was in the band). Passion sound did our music for the wedding. Me and Michael didn't take dance lessons. For an English guy he dances pretty well on Afrikaanse Sokkie music.
