It is very difficult to single out but a few moments but there are certain moments that will forever be etched into my memory...
When my lovely florist, Ilse from Blomstories surprised me with not only the most beautiful bouquet but a dried out blushing bride bouquet (my favourite flower that was unfortunately out of season with my wedding month) and a handwritten note with each flower’s symbolism explained!
Definitely having Pippa, my labradoodle pup not only share in our Special Day, but (successfully!) bring in our rings!
Walking down the aisle to my best friend and (then) almost husband crying. (Albeit ugly crying!)
And probably my most treasured memory forever and a day; when Hayds and I winged our First Dance to ‘Hava Nagila’ from the Fiddler on the roof movie soundtrack. It was the biggest ‘high’ being swept off of my feet whilst loved ones were dancing in a big circle around us... I will never forget that moment! Everything was totally unscripted and yet magical!
We had a short but relaxing honeymoon in the Knysna forest.
My wedding look was classic but with a touch of ‘bohemian’. I always knew my hair would be down as it is one of my most distinctive features. I opted for a dramatic dark smokey eye but warmed it with copper tones. Minke du Plessis who did my hair and makeup was simply God sent; She plays to your strengths and she helped me to see my own unique beauty. Thank you Minke x
Hayds and I fell in love with De Uijlenes in Gansbaai the first time when we attended a wedding there. The Nightjar venue was the perfect fit for us and Staci is just the coolest person! It really felt like family and that was very important for us. Our guests had a lovely meal with us the night before and stayed over at the Nigthjar’s accommodation. They were also treated to a lovely breakfast the morning after our wedding. The ‘nightjar’ (the actual beautiful bird) also has a very specific meaning for us as couple and the venue just happened to be named after it! Very special indeed!
Ah the ‘beauty regime’... I am a very active person so I just intensified my normal workout regime. My skin is very healthy and youthful thanks to my diet which consists out of fresh produce and a lot of water. Never underestimate the benefits of a healthy diet!
We decided to leave our decor completely to our florist, Ilse. We did not have the time to do any diy projects and we wanted the decor to be completely organic, lush and unforgettable! I wanted texture and some pops of colour evened out with earthy greens and metallic finishes. It was mindblowing walking into our reception hall - Ilse created the most beautiful bohemian tapestry of textures and smells; fresh velvety flowers, crispy dried out seeds (my blushing brides too!), soft greens cascading from industrial lamps strung all over the dance floor and inviting candle light... My mom and her side of the family made all of our wooden sign boards and my mom in law made our guests’ gifts: wooden cutting boards with floral prints.
