We initially met through a friend of mine at a nightclub, but we didn’t get together right away. About 8 months later I was walking down the street in Camps Bay and saw Justin was leaving the strip. He ended up coming back inside and we stayed till late, catching up and spending time together. From that night, we have not been apart since.
He proposed on my 31st birthday - we were late getting to my party; an all white luncheon at Roundhouse, and Justin said that he had to stop at The Grand in Camps Bay to pick up a cake from a client. I was moaning because we were late. As we walked in to go and meet his client (I was walking in front of him down the hill, basically dragging him because we were so late), he muttered, “Babe I love you so much, you know that right?” and I replied “Yes I do, I love you too now hurry up!” and continued to drag him. When I felt resistance from my tugging, I looked back and he was down on one knee (I had actually wounded his knee I was dragging him so hard!) Right there, on the same spot where we had seen each other again for the first time on the strip, he asked me to be his wife. He had arranged for the whole thing to be secretly photographed and videoed, it was magical. The feeling of putting my beautiful ring on for the first time, knowing that I was engaged to the man of my dreams, blew me away. We stood and hugged for about 20 minutes! It truly was magical.
I found the planning process a breeze to be honest! I used a wedding planning company called Evention, and Rushana and Victoria ensured my whole wedding, from start to finish, was absolutely hassle-free. It was amazing!
I found most of my inspiration on Pinterest; you can find anything and everything on there!
The most memorable part of my day was probably standing at the altar, exchanging vows. It is truly the most surreal experience. It was as if the rest of the wedding just blurs away and it’s just you, your fiancé and the pastor standing there. It’s a very ‘calm in the eye of the storm’ type of feeling…amazing!
We had a very romantic theme; blush pink, white and accents of gold. We wanted something that was timeless and classic, something we could look back on in 20 years and not be shocked by!
I wanted my wedding dress to be classic as I believe it should represent your personality and style. My dress was very simple, elegant and classy. I like to “keep it simple”.
For our flowers, I chose roses - white, cream and blush and I also wanted peonies, which were quite rare at the time of our wedding, but Rushana from Evention basically hijacked all the peonies in the Western Cape and ensured they were at our wedding! It was absolutely breathtaking! The décor was mainly white with shades of blush pink and plenty of ambience to bring through the romantic look and feel.
We had a DIY life size Polaroid frame with our hashtag and date on it, which worked as a cool photo prop. We also had lettering that had our initials on them and the word ‘LOVE’ made with polystyrene.
We chose a song from Chris Cornell called ‘Thank You’. In the song he sings the words “inspiration is what you are to me” and that really caught us. It sums up the true essence of a relationship and a marriage. It is not just about loving the person, it’s about having them light up your life and inspire you to be a better you.
Taking a moment, just the two of us before walking into the reception to sit down and say “we did it, we made it.” Looking at each other and taking it all in and appreciating where you are and that you’re there with your person. It can be very overwhelming at your wedding, so to have a moment alone is a must for sure! We also had waiters dress as Mexicans and hand out tequila to Mariachi music, which was pretty awesome!
Get a planner; the extra cost is so worth the absence of drama!
Yes we did. We went to Bali and found it to be absolutely breathtaking and totally affordable! It has a good balance of entertainment, shopping, relaxing and the people are incredibly friendly!
