We got engaged at Changa Safari Camp in Kariba. I had planned a surprise trip to propose to Michelle. Little did I know, Michelle had smelt a rat, and went and got my grans engagement ring from my parents without my knowledge. After I had proposed to her, our friends came running up to congratulate us, but I heard Michelle saying “wait wait we’re not done”. I turned around and she was on one knee with my grans ring in her hand. I immediately burst into tears! It was the best surprise double proposal ever.
We found the process pretty easy. We are organised people and had a clear idea of what we wanted for our day. Chelsea and her team from Warren Stone Weddings helped us every step of the way and make the entire experience as stress free as possible.
We are not high maintenance ladies, and so we drew from the inspiration of keeping the day simple and focused on the main things, good food, drinks, music and people!
Being surrounded by all the best people in our lives in such a magical location at Webersburg Wine Estate - was definitely one of the highlights, obviously second to marrying each other.
We wanted to keep the colour palette super simple and natural - we asked Chelsea and her team to focus on the whites, greens and champagne colours. We drew a lot of ideas from Pinterest.
Michelle
Taliana, her close friend, crafted her dress. She desired something clean, simple and comfortable that made her feel beautiful.
Jemma
I went with something that made me feel super confident with my body, it had lots of detail on it, which I loved, as I don’t wear jewellery etc.. and so I was happy that the dress covered it all. It was also super comfy and I didn’t have to spend my day worrying about “sucking in” my stomach.
Bridesmaids and our bridesmen (as we like to call them) (no groom so no groomsmen) - were all in various shades or greens and champagnes to match the theme - but also to allow them a bit of individuality. We had a bridesmaid from each side dressed in a matching colour and they walked down the aisle together and then split onto either side of the arch
Décor and flowers again were greens and whites - we were in love with dahlias and they were in season which was a bonus. Anna Botany did our flowers and we were truly blown away.
Power of a Woman - Drake White
We felt like lyrics suited us a couple and who we are - promoting women’s power - which it so happened to be International Women’s Day on the day we got married: 08/3/24.
Walking back up the aisle, newly married and relieved that the ceremony had gone smoothly, what a nerve-wracking experience! Another favourite memory is right after our first dance. The crowd rushed onto the dance floor, and we heard our names being called. We looked over to see Michelle's dad and my dad dancing together, leading each other around the floor. It was such a sweet moment.
Choose a reliable and well established wedding planner - Warren Stone Weddings had great vendors and made the planning process seamless and stress-free. We ensured that our ceremony was unique to us and interesting for the crowd as well - we could not recommend Lara Thomas from Elope, Cape Town enough. She was absolutely amazing!
Try to focus on the big things (food, booze, music) people forget about a lot when it comes to the the small details.
We have not done that yet, we are prioritising starting our family first. We will hopefully have a honeymoon or babymoon in the next couple of months!
