Our love story is quite simple, God brought us together.
We met on a church camp in June 2016. I had my eye on him during the camp and soon developed a crush. I had no game and had no idea of how to let a guy know that I am interested in him. I still haven't figured this out, lucky for me it somehow worked out and we got married a year later in June 2017
So the proposal was so unique and so mind blowing. I am a very suspicious person and can figure somethings out without anyone telling me a thing, so my now husband, Gavin, had a challenge.
We planned a getaway for my birthday to Struisbaai in the western Cape. This meant we had to fly to the nearest airport which is George.
During the flight he went to the bathroom and never came back. Then the flight attended said I need to stand for a special announcement. Gavin started talking over the intercom but I could not make a word out of what he was saying. As he talked I started making my way to the front of the airplane where I found Gavin, after his speech he went on his knees and asked me to marry him. And of course I said YES. The cabin crew popped champagne and the pilot had a few special words to say. I still get goosebumps of this moment.
I only had four months to plan our wedding, which turned out not to be a challenge at all. I made use of the Facebook group 'Trou Idees' and the magazine 'Wedding Guide' to help me with the planning process. Planning a wedding may seem overwhelming at the start but as soon as you have the venue and photographer your quite set.
My planning inspiration came from Pinterest. I love the all white look, then I added the natural feel of just mainly greenery.
Every part of the wedding day was beyond special. I set out just to enjoy myself and take in every moment.
Getting married to the love of your life, your soul mate and best friend is the best feeling in the world for me so far.
I love the all white look, then I added the natural feel of just mainly greenery. Simplistic and as cheap as possible was my aim. The only decor I hired was lanterns. The venue had fireplaces lid with complemented the lanterns.
My dress is by the designer Casey Jeanne and a purchased it at Calegra Bridal house in Pretoria. I wanted a dress with long sleeves, that allowed my to move, that is modern and had no boning for the structure. My dress was mystical yet sexy and very comfortable. I decided to save money and opt for the no bridesmaids' thing.
I wanted to save money by having as less flowers as possible and then do just greenery, but it turned out to be just as expensive.
The DIY projects I did for the wedding was the website invite I designed for free on Wix.com. Then I made the guest books as well as the confetti bags.
We chose Brendan Peyper 'Die perfekte een'. The reason was that the lyrics resonated with our love for each other.
My husband was unable to take his eyes off me during the ceremony. We giggled and whispered like naughty kids that can't sit still in church and didn't focus on what was being preached.
Don't get to fussed about perfection, enjoy your day. Embrace the people you hired for your wedding and their artistic point of view. They know what they are doing. Your main focus should be on your groom or bride.
We went on two honeymoons. The first was a mini honeymoon for just the weekend of our wedding. We went to Akabeko Hotel near Dullstroom. Absolutely perfect place for solitude for newlyweds. Then in August we went to Phuket, Thailand for our main honeymoon. What an adventure.
