The event was perfectly put together and hosted a ton of South Africa’s film-industry elite. The likes of Heinz Winkler, Kurt Darren and of course the star studded cast of Vir Altyd were present, and all too willing to do media interviews and take ‘selfies’ with the SA Weddings team. The venue provided delicious canapés such as cheese boards, falafels, deep fried balls stuffed with feta and prosciutto crostini- all of which seemed to be coming from a never-ending supply.

As the afternoon sun began to set and the warm evening crept in, the guests were treated to a host of live performances alongside the dam. The talented and heartfelt singers of the Vir Altyd Film soundtrack were a perfect opening to the film itself. Thank you’s were presented by the lead actors and directors showing just how much hard work and passion it took to create such a successful local film, with a special tear even being shed by Donalee Roberts.

The film stars, two of 7de Laan’s dearest, Ivan Botha and Donalee Roberts play Hugo and Nina - childhood sweethearts who were split apart unknowingly by Nina’s parents and now years later find themselves in the same town again. After an unexpected turn of events the two end up in Mauritius together on an adventure whilst accompanied by other eccentric hotel guests. The film’s comedic timing and screen presence from all actors on screen is brilliant. The storyline, cinematography and filming is also to be commended as the audience was deeply enthralled by the tropical paradise Mauritius and by each characters compelling story.

The film left the most delightful warm feeling lingering in the air of Rheboekskloof, perfectly fit to pair with the traditional koeksusters served for dessert. The albeit long drive back to Cape Town was overlooked as the evening was an experience in itself made better by the use of SA Weddings in the character’s wedding planning! Vir Altyd is a must see film that has certainly raised the bar for all local films alike.
