Mauritius - a term that conjures up images of an island paradise: White beaches, palm trees, clear turqouise water... Unsurprisingly, when the team at SA Weddings received an invitation via World Leisure Holidays to attend a special Mauritian flavoured dinner hosted by Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, we were excited to see what the evening had in store!
Come Monday evening, Shimmy Beach Club provided a fantastic platform for an intimate encounter between the newly renovated Le Touessrok's General Manager Gabriele Lombardo and his guests. One glimpse of the beautifully decorated dinner table and tropical welcome cocktails ensured that we were getting into an island mood and becoming curious as to what was to follow. As it turned out, the organisers had a few surprises up their sleeves...
After the guests had arrived and settled in, and as the sun set over Cape Town, the calm was suddenly interrupted by rhythmic beats and two lovely girls clad in Mauritian dresses performing sensual Sega dancing. The fabulous three-course dinner complimented the theme for the evening: our hosts presented us with little portions of Mauritius - just enough to whet our appetites and have us longing for more.
Gabriele's presentation of the newly revamped and re-imagined Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, now partly owned by Shangri-La, which re-opened its doors on 1 November 2015, gave us a glimpse of what this exquisite travel destination has to offer: Nestled within Mauritius' unspoilt east coast of Trou D’Eau Douce, Le Touessrok encompasses the spirit of modern island elegance.
The resort's clean lines, natural colours and organic textures deliver what the island promises its visitors: pure luxury and relaxation. Le Touessrok's transformation comfortably places it among the top five star resorts of its kind, with its re-imagined look focusing on simplicity, timeless design and natural materials. The resort is perfectly situated for day trips to Ilot Mangenie, a small paradisiacal island, exclusively reserved for guests of Le Touessrok, and Ile aux Cerfs with its spectacular golf course.
After a mouthwatering dinner, dramatic drumbeats announced another treat – and we were spoilt to an intimate performance of two beautiful artists doing fascinating fire acrobatics on the sand. By now, our senses were enticed to the extent that we were under the impression of physically being on an island. If the aim of the evening was to convince those present to visit Le Touessrok and to convince others to do the same, all I can say is: Mission accomplished. We are already hooked!
Needless to say, we can whole-heartedly recommend the newly reimagined Le Touessrok Resort & Spa to our brides and grooms as a magical honeymoon or holiday destination!
A big thank you to World Leisure Holidays for establishing the connect between Le Touessrok and SA Weddings.
