Honeymoon Inspiration for 2017

5 honeymoon hotspots you haven’t thought of before!

SHARE

Do something different

After you and your hubby-to-be have made hundreds of decisions on flowers, colour palettes, décor, dresses, photographers and everything inbetween, the last thing you feel like doing is coming up with an original idea for where to spend your first few weeks as a newly married couple. Honeymoon pressure is REAL, so we’ve got you covered for 5 new destinations that are anything but boring and done-before.

La Rioja, Spain

Spain’s northern wine region combines romantic settings with incredible cuisine – not to mention some excellent wines. What to do: Check out the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, the creation of winemaker Pedro Vivanco and appreciate the bottles from ancient Rome, original Picassos and then top it all off by enjoying lunch at a café overlooking the vineyards. You can also enjoy R&R in the form of massages at the famous Caudalie Vinotheque Spa where even the oils are made with grape extract. Good to know: Get a taste of authentic Spain and well-priced food at nearby Logrono, a little town with narrow streets full of traditional, tempting tapas spots.

Southern Safari Circuit, Tanzania

Although most people head to the northern parts of Tanzania to see the Great Migration, these parks can be very overcrowded and full of tourist taxis in the busy season. Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park are two of the country’s largest and most remote parks, offering a wonderfully wild and private honeymoon safari.
What to do: Take a slow sunset cruise down the Rufiji River to view grunting hippos, a healthy population of elephant and lots of antelope coming down to drink. Each day you can choose between river safaris, walking safaris, wildlife viewing from a game vehicle or just kick back and relax together as husband and wise at the lodge.
Good to know: The southern safari circuit is far removed from mass tourism but there are a handful of really outstanding safari lodges to choose from. Beho Beho is a gorgeous safari lodge and one of the best safari camps in Tanzania, but it’s friendly rather than pretentious.

Croatia

Beyoncé and Jay-Z did it before it was considered such a destinationhot-spot and now honeymooners around the world are figuring out why. It’s by far one of the most beautiful and romantic destination out there – a great mix of beautiful beaches, azure blue waters and fascinating history that you could find and appreciate in any European city. What to do: Croatia is a wine-lover’s paradise, home to some of the region’s most distinctive varietals. The Fort George is a wonderful spot to sip on a glass of the best and toast to your new life together. Good to know: July and August are high season on the Adriatic Coast, but if you visit a little before or after – between June and September – it will be less crowded and temperatures will be a little milder.

Tasmania, Australia

This heart-shaped (appropriate, we know) little island off of mainland Australia is simply breath-taking and offers the perfect option for an adventurous couple hoping to see the world.
What to do: Visit the Museum of Old and New Art bursting with curiosities or splurge on unique crafts and gourmet food at Hobart’s Salamanca Markets. Don’t miss the dramatic mountains and several of the world’s best beaches at Freycinet National Park or visit the famously haunted Port Arthur for an hour of spooky stories and freaky encounters.
Good to know: Tasmania is your last stop before Antarctica, so it can be a little chilly. December through to February are the warmest months of the year and one of the best time to visit for a warm escape.

Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt

Sharm el-Sheikh is a beautiful resort town and port in South Sinai, Egypt. This is the perfect destination for active couples wanting to enjoy thrilling experiences like water sports, desert safaris but who also want to experience leisure time and luxurious hotels overlooking the bay. What to do: Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the desert camel trekking and visit the biblical Mount Sinai. Good to know: South Sinai Egypt is accredited as one of the best driving destinations along the Red Sea. Think about hiring a car and exploring the beautiful coastline for yourselves.
